It’s not optimum to try to eyeball the color on a website but if the AK “Flow Enhancer” that just arrived doesn’t improve things, that’s the way I may have to go. if you don't find what you're looking for, asking on their Facebook fans page may help as you say eyeballing swatches is never great, but if you say "I am looking for x", someone may well know / be able to help - it's worked for me in the past PS I am colour blind so need all the help i can get lol John1 1

John1 Posted November 4 Author Posted November 4 Megahobby is great. Really deep inventory of paints, nice pricing and I had the order within a few days. Highly recommend these guys.

First off - I'm using AK's "New Generation" Acrylic Thinner (AK11500). My first test run using it showed me that this paint needs to be heavily thinned. I'm using a 2:1 ratio of thinner to paint. I'm used to Modelmaster's stuff where at best it was 1:1. Even when heavily thinned, I'm getting some spattering. I tried reducing pressure, increasing pressure, shooting further away, closer in, etc. Higher pressure, applied at a high volume from further away seems to yield the best results but I still see a bit of spattering. There is no way that I'll be able to do close in, detail work with this stuff. Any tips would be much appreciated! John, Recommend you read my article I posted in this group a while ago. Use my thinner mixture and your Ak 3rd Gen will spray like a lacquer. I have already tested it and so have many people in my Facebook modeling group. I recommend thinning 50/50 or 40/60 paint to thinner (3rd Gen paint is very thick) at 18-20psi. After only 15 mins you can tape over the paint. https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/98536-how-to-properly-airbrush-acrylic-paints-vallejo-ak-ammo-army-painters-etc/ John1 1

Highly recommend these guys. Yeah, but I just saw that they're going to shut down at the end of 2026, retirement. There is actually AAA Hobbies in Magnolia, NJ, the brick-and-mortar store front, MegaHobby the online arm, and Steven's International which is the distribution arm which are all owned by the same people. They're all shutting down the end of 2026. Unless of course someone buys the business. Which I have no idea about that last comment if it's even for sale. And I just ordered some items including AK RC paint Monday evening. John1 1
