Sasha As Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 Dear colleagues, I am starting construction of the deck and bridge of the aircraft carrier Akagi. I am considering the possibility of making the deck out of plywood using laser cutting. But these are just plans; I'll see how it goes. The instructions provided by Dorder do not really indicate how to paint various small items and details, so I will likely have questions, especially since I am new to maritime themes. Sasha As Posted October 6, 2025 Author Posted October 6, 2025 I started the assembly process. So far, I like it. Considering the size of the parts and their complex shapes, it fits together quite well. There are some awkward feeders in visible places, but there aren't many of them and they are easy to fix. I laid out the deck, which is a large structure, and to get an idea of the size, I placed the pilot and Spitfire on it.)))) easixpedro, Javlin1, LSP_K2 and 15 others 18
Juggernut Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 (edited) I think Border got the orientation of those deck boards "slightly" incorrect. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/27R0cfB76gY?feature=share https://youtu.be/-LtBrKB0lD0 NOPE, my vision sucks....the deck planking is going the right direction....Sheesh. I have narrow angle glaucoma but this is ridiculous. Edited October 6, 2025 by Juggernut Sasha As and Martinnfb 1 1

These measurements are in centimeters. Mals Way and Martinnfb 2

DugyB Posted October 8, 2025 Posted October 8, 2025 Very nice, I’ll be keeping a keen eye on this, would be awesome to find some blueprints for the internal bulkheads and stuff like that. I sorta have an idea depicting the last Zero launched before the fatal bomb strike. Sasha As 1
Sasha As Posted October 8, 2025 Author Posted October 8, 2025 I'm continuing. I assembled the binoculars, machine guns, and parts of the wheelhouse. The lighting wiring turned out somewhat unexpectedly. The cutouts for the LEDs didn't match up, so I switched them around, which was better, but something wasn't quite right, so I had to trim them, re-solder them in two places, and still couldn't get them to fit perfectly into the light fixture niche. But it will be inside, and I really hope that it will all work. I have a question for experts on the Japanese navy: is the color inside the combat bridge white or gray, like the outside of the superstructure? TankBuster, patricksparks, Trak-Tor and 12 others 15

That’s an excellent question, the interior of US warship’s were painted in soft, pastel colours. Not sure if the IJN practiced the same habit. I would love to know the answer myself. Time to engage my brain … 🫡 Sasha As 1
