shadowmare Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Hello guys, i always liked this Japanese dive bomber because of its tasteful lines. Infinity kit is nothing else than Special Hobby like "quality" with very nice rivets and an attempt to reproduce slight worn surface effects. Cockpit tub needs some trimming in rear, anyway every part needs attention, checking fit is mandatory to avoid suprises. Perfect fit: Hubert Boillot, HB252, Mal_Belford and 24 others 27
dennismcc Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Looks like a challenge, but a very fine start. heers Dennis shadowmare 1
Gazzas Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 That interior looks sweet. Good luck with the fit. shadowmare 1
monthebiff Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Beautifully painted cockpit, looking forward to watching this one fight you tooth and nail but I hear this was a big step up in quality compared to the Helldiver. Regards. Andy shadowmare 1
scvrobeson Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 Great start, looks like it'll be a challenging but rewarding build. Matt shadowmare 1
Greif8 Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 Very nice interior and engine work. This one does look to come with some fit challenges. Ernest shadowmare 1
shadowmare Posted September 22, 2025 Author Posted September 22, 2025 Thanks for comments. Battle with wings-to-fuselage resulted in successful ending. Firstly middle bar which is for stiffening elements was drilled with dremel so it now don't cause levitatiating. then i realized that something else disturbs wing connection, i streighten this stripe next step was to remove these 2 fins lastly i trim these edges (and fuselage wing part) because fuselage did not enter wing niche. how it looks now, much work (i was covered in plastic snow ) but no need to fill enything. Gazzas Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 I'm curious to see how well the surfaces will cooperate with you in the weathering phase. shadowmare 1
monthebiff Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 Nice fix on the wing assembly, now you have a perfect fit! Regards. Andy shadowmare 1
Dpgsbody55 Posted September 23, 2025 Posted September 23, 2025 Nice work so far. I've done battle with one of Infinity Models kits, and I hope you make it to the finish line. Cheers, Michael shadowmare 1
shadowmare Posted September 23, 2025 Author Posted September 23, 2025 Thanks! I need advice on which color i should use. I bought AK RC Amber Grey (coffe with milk tone) but i wonder if HAI-IRO Grey may be better option?
dennismcc Posted September 23, 2025 Posted September 23, 2025 To help with colours I would recommend visiting the Aviation Of Japan blog, you can obtain an article on the D3AI from their "Detailing the D3A1 by Ryan Toews" http://www.aviationofjapan.com/ The site is my go to place for all things Japanese. Cheers Dennis shadowmare, denders and Volksjager 3
Volksjager Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 (edited) Yep, I agree with Dennis, Aviation of Japan will give you all the info you need. Have a look at this post in particular http://www.aviationofjapan.com/2008/12/d3a1-colours-at-pearl-harbor.html For me, I would go for Amber Grey, BUT as you're looking to do a machine from pre Pearl, I would probably consider a Silver/NMF for something pre war/early war Edited September 24, 2025 by Volksjager getting the picture to work scvrobeson, denders, shadowmare and 2 others 5
Greif8 Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 Brilliant work on a tough kit. I have this one and it looks like I am in for a ride when I get around to building it. Ernest shadowmare 1
