FW190A-5 Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 Hello John, if I may make a suggestion. I use gardening surfactant for applying decals over gloss surfaces and am sure would be perfect for the salt technique. It is an ingredient in dishwashing liquid but in pure/concentrated form without the dyes, perfume and suds. A couple of drops in a cup and your water will lay flat and not bead and no residue. So much better than Ajax dish soap. You can find it at professional farm and garden centers. BTW, I'm the guy you made the Minsi III mask for in exchange for the Eileen decals for your excellent P-47. Try it and happy modeling, John Stambaugh
scvrobeson Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 Hopefully you carry on with it. I think the salt will show up more on the green than the brown, just the nature of the color. It looks awesome so far, and I'll look forward to that Godzilla build. How big is it going to be? Matt
Greif8 Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 I have always had a tough time getting salt fading to work like I wanted it to John and have quit using it for the reasons you laid out above. The sponge chipping looks superb and really adds some interest to the overall look. Ernest
