Hello all,

What are people's recommendations for British HHS paint on a Spitfire?  Would prefer to stick with acrylics.

Thanks,

Richard

I've used Tamiya spray can AS-12 Bare Metal silver for HSS, not acrylic though. For acrylic airbrush i used Vallejo Metal Air. Trying to remember which color i used, been a while, i think it was 77.701 aluminum. Did a build to experiment, will try and find it.

AS-12 is also my go-to solution for this, but it's not acrylic as Don has already mentioned.

Thanks Kevin, I think I am just going to decanted the AS-12 and use that.  Like I said, I prefer acrylics, but I do airbrush enamels when I need to.

Richard,

In my opinion Vallejo Metal color (acrylic based metallic paint) white aluminum is very similar to "RAF high Speed Silver". Take a look at my video:

Thanks for the excellent video.  Going to give the Vallejo a try. The Vampire came out great BTW.

Alclad II Lacquer ALC 125, R.A.F. High Speed Silver. I have used it both over a black base and chrome base. The black is my preferred for a bit darker shade than over the chome base which lightens it some.

Would you happen to have some images of the finished results? And did you use a matt black base or a gloss one?

Xtracolor X038 RAF High Speed Silver, sprays beautifully and looks great.

I airbrush it straight onto the plastic.

Cheers
