New to me option in the Silhouette Studio software

Apparently this setting makes the Silhouette lift the blade and then re-postiton it before cutting a sharp corner. This could improve results when cutting very small serial numbers or stencils. I am going to try this out and see how it affects cuts. I found this on Britmodeller.

Hmmm....I must not have it.  I'm using a Cameo 4 with the Designer Edition + 4.5.815 software and I haven't been notified of an update yet.  I don't see a cut settings box unless I'm just dense and it's in a menu/submenu someplace.

I'm using v5 of the software (5.0.219ssbe Business Edition), and the interface for those settings is indeed quite different. I found them by going to the SEND area, then clicking on the MORE button in the Modify Settings area:

 

 

This opens up a long list of material types, but there's a settings panel at the bottom, which contains the settings in question:

 

 

And a couple of parameters you can adjusted when selected:

Hi everyone,

 

I've bought my Silhouette Cameo 4 cutter and now I have to download the software to run it.   I assume I need to buy a software version that processes vector files.   Which version of the software do you recommend?   Many thanks in advance.

I believe silhouette studio allows import of svg files in designer edition, which is the first pay version,but double check. The software is prob not the best, but it's intuitive, works well with the silhouette machines, and the free version does most of what most modelers need. You can always download it and see if you like it for free. 

 

I only updated because I updated machines and it came with the upgrade in the bundle. If you specifically need vector files, you'll have to update, but Hawaiin air depot files and such work fine in the free version.

Thank you for your reply.   I tend to struggle a bit with IT so I don't fully understand what I actually need to create stencils and future-proof myself to some extent.   I am proficient with Adobe Photoshop and I have created an assortment of complex digital artwork using this software.   I also have a basic idea of how to create graphics with Adobe Illustrator (which creates 'vector' files).   I was under the impression that it is best to create stencils/artwork using vector files as this allows one to change the scale of the artwork without causing a pixeling effect along curved edges.    I agree with you that Silhouette's basic (free) software is more than sufficient for the creation of texts but I was more concerned about what's best for creating more abstract shapes.

I have not used Silhouette for a long time (a function of my abysmally low rate of kit production, compounded by a mojo crisis linked to painful personal events), but, IIRC, you need the Business edition to use vector drawings created in another software.

 

Àd I think I remember there is also a setting to prolong the cut by a fraction of millimeter in tight corners to avoid tearing the mask material. So the cuts cross each other rather than butt at the same point.

Just confirmed with my own software, SVG files import in Designer Edition fine.  No need to trace, you can import and cut directly.
