Any one have close-up pics they might link or post showing the early F-4E gun muzzle, in use circa 1967-1971? It's a forthcoming project if LFD get their nose set out soon.

It is clear that there was a square cut-out in the angled front part, but what was just behind and underneath as it flattened out? It seems to resemble either a stadium or semi-circle cut-out.

From memory there was a good picture of Maj Everett Raspberry poking his fingers through this second vent in a publucity shot, but I can't find it. It was published in Ian Allan's MCA №1 on the F-4 Phantom. If you have the book, please scan that pic.

Many thanks,

I surely have one reference somewhere but this is not easy to find as I'm remembering how complicated it was finding pictures when I made the short nose master for AMS. I probably have the Ian Allan book somewhere but we're still in the move process and I've around 100 plastic containers full of books and mags to sort!

That's great; thanks Thierry. I'll go for the stadium shape. If you come across the old Ian Allan publications book from 1978, I'd love to see that pic again — lost my copy a few years ago!

Am building a Zulu Alert 32nd TFS hardwing F-4E starting later this year, on the basis of the forthcoming Laminar Flow Design E nose + NLG door parts, and ResKit Sparrow and Falcon missiles. Not sure if LFD are making the early gun muzzle but I believe they, too, were looking for references.
