Very nice work on the floats Mal.  I agree that most of these aircraft did not get very heavily weathered.  Looking through photos the only thing that stood out to me was a bit of fading on the paint on the horizontal surfaces.

Ernest

Thanks.

Sun and salt in those areas, yes specially in august, gets very hot.

aiming for bleached look, little chipping (no bare metal)..only down to primer, and some patched look.

also seen many pics that surface top colors RLM72 & 73 meets under colors RLM65 are not sharp, so means less masking and yes freehand with the AB.

Also..note that different exhaust on that Arado 196.

Very interesting and clear pictures. Of note are the exhausts. Flame damper? Also this aircraft has the MG81Z defensive weapon.

Thanks for sharing Mal,

Yes the rudder wire.

Allright, need to trim the strip a bit, so it gets a straight angle...razor blade at service..people say cut it...i say okay okay okay dont rush...

And drill them holes.

Restored them panel lines aswell, 1mm, but hey...it would be visible, and now then dryfit with a short piece of stiff rigging line for modelships...perfekt, yes it works for me.

More detailing, them rear struts got their tie up loops

img20741.jpg

Aswell as the tie up ring in the front, yes it is bit different...but seen rings and theese...so go for Eduards Pe.

Thats it this evening, now a cold beer after this evenings build session...well deserved.

What a fantastic job, Mal!

I’m blown away by how much of the detailing you do yourself…

Total respect.

Once again, I’m already excited to see the paint job you’re gonna pull off...

And on with the oxide red on fabric areas. Tamiya red and brown..

Hey...all frehand, no need to be exact here..also assume real deal didnt deal with masking on different primer colors. lol.

And note it is its not that red as in pictures, more damped red brown in it than the pictures shows...

To ad, all this will have to dry for a few days. before even consider masking

Dont know why, but i do know when using Tamiyas XF brown/redbrown, thinned with MR leveling thinner, it sure takes way longer compared to other Tamiyas XF color paints, learned that on my ship build. and yes very diluted and thin coats...yeah the hard way.

Just heads up for those who mix em colors with Mr Leveling Thinner and Tamiyas XF brown/redbrown. let it rest and dont touch. not even with gloves it will leave marks..for few days.
