I'm sure most of us started at 1/72. I then progressed into 48th and thought it was a different world. Then my wife brought me the "new" 1/32 Tamiya Spitfire when it was released. I couldn't believe the difference and presence. Having done model shows from behind the desk and as public, I was always drawn to 1/32. Looking back, it just seemed a question of when. Since that Spit I've never built a smaller scale. I look back and think HOW on earth did I make those?.

When younger what was available and what money I had dictated what came home with me from the Model Shop. But I’m with you on wondering how I managed to handle such small parts when I look back at the older kits. I’ve even purchased 1/48 kits where a 1/32 version isn’t available and swiftly moved them on again after realising there’s no way I’m going to not give myself a Migraine and go cross eyed trying to paint these things.

I was a 1/48 scale builder till 2014 when I “discovered” the KH T-6 which I built as a Harvard. 1/32 scale was a revelation from which there was no going back. I haven’t ventured into 1/24 yet though…..a step too far methinks. :P

Funny thing: I had a similar progression, starting off with 1/72, moving to 1/48 in the early 1990s, and 1/32 in the early 2010s.  But there my story differs.  I first discovered 1/32 in the early 1970s, and I can tell you from memory the range available from my local shop (C F Rogers in Bury St Edmunds).  Don't be too impressed, the list is only 3 long: Revell P-40E, Revell Bf 109F (or G - I can't recall), and Revell Spitfire Mk I.  For some reason I never got round to the Spit, but I have dabbled in 1/32 most of my modelling life.

And whilst I thought from the early 2010s that my modelling efforts would be in 1/32 scale going forward, I still find myself buying and building 1/48 and even 1/72, although the approach differs somewhat: the latter are usually from the box, ignoring tiny details, and usually the only aftermarket I use being canopy masks and perhaps decals.   It keeps the variety and the mojo alive, I think.

However, to drag this back on topic, I probably won't indulge in the Kotare Hurricane: I wrestled the Fly one into what I think is a respectable facsimile, but which would probably not stand close scrutiny by an expert.  Nevertheless, I wish those who do build one happy modelling, and Kotare every success.
