Jim Barry Posted March 14 Posted March 14 (edited) I’ve got group build going with my model building friends. This month, it’s US Navy or Marine aircraft of WW2. I chose the Dauntless. Let’s paint the interior walls you can barely see! Lol (btw, I love Accurate Miniatures. Built their P-51 long ago. Impressive ! Jim Barry Posted March 17 Author Posted March 17 I really like 1/48 when the kit is top notch. Great progress. Might finish tomorrow! coogrfan, chukw, Javlin1 and 7 others 9 1
scvrobeson Posted March 18 Posted March 18 The AM Dauntless is one of my favorite kits of all time. It's an absolute gem to put together. Looking forward to seeing this one done. Matt Jim Barry and Archimedes 1 1
Jim Barry Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 I had a connection here on LSP (many years ago now) with a model building expert/pro who collaborated with AM . I can’t recall the venture but I don’t think it came to be. The research is always strong.
Jim Barry Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 (edited) I decided to go the extra mile to faithfully reproduce how the Marines at Midway painted over the excessively colorful flag strips on their Dauntlesses they received in May from the Lexington. Here’s the real thing though in b&w And here’s my reproduction (the decals did not pull this off, I had to paint the flag red and white and then cover in blue and how it actually looks which is sweet! (Hard work pays off!) ps. I didn’t finish today as hoped but feel this extra effort was worth the delay. I can sometimes rush to finish but need to moderate that bad habit so dealing some kudos to myself. It’ll be done when it’s done! LSP_Kevin Posted March 21 Posted March 21 That turned out great, Jim! I have one in the stash too, and was contemplating including it in my Weathering Studies series. Kev Jim Barry 1
Jim Barry Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 Yes, Kev. It’s rather suited for weathering. Spraying the seams black really made this pop. A bit of Tamiya panel accent and some creative dry brushing. Also I find part prep with Tamiya spray primer keeps the whole thing on track LSP_Kevin 1
