Mal_Belford Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Allright. Time to try something new between aircraft build and yes miilitary, why not try something completely different, and have a recretation buld and helluva time, no crazy ambition level here. Just plain buildning. Looking foerward to the favorite part, yes weathering, and try new things, bought it a little while ago on my lumchbrake. The kit. Shoggz, Javlin1, LSP_Kevin and 11 others 14
Mal_Belford Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 The plastic shipyard is finally open yesterday evening. details are very very delicate, couple turns with fine sand paper and they are gone, and we do not want that, lower and upper front bow had little level difference between panels, no grinding no putty, easy solution a piece from a sprue forces the lower in to line and perfect flush, no putty and no sandpaper and all details intact, same trick with fuselage and wingroot, no gap. the sprue stick can be seen in front. denders, Tony T, Sasha As and 8 others 11

Only looked at the modelkit cover this time with thoughts like "build something different for a while what should i build hmmm" and came out from the store with this kit, lol. and the story behind it reveals afterwards. a piece of history. Mal_Belford Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 Bottom hull finnished, there were irregularitys at the edge and nibble ejector marks, mask area with tape, , CA glue, and scrape very genntly with a rounded bladed, used Surfacer 500, remove tape, sand it down carefully with 1200grit wet sandpaper, 3 times, perfect, will knock of em egdes of the surfacer, keep that subtle edge, will be just perfect. That splatter mask in the background will be used. will be using oils and pigments to weather the hull, all that i love to do. Also got theese to ad in this project, some of the weathering for algea along the waterline, heard so much good things about citadels color, spoke to a veteran in Warhammer and what i want to acheive, i knew the colors a wanted so Citadels shades could d the trick, and yes i will paint up a piece of plastic card sheet for this matter to try it out first, i always run testruns on new media before go live and see if gives me the result i want and after. yes like em tones for algea.... Rampenfest, TankBuster, Sparzanza and 3 others 6
Mal_Belford Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 (edited) Forgot to ad, no i will not use a wood base and drill holes in the hull, no dont like holes on the hull, not me, no water diorama, never done that but main task get this PE frenesi its the first goal, thats pretty much anyway lol. got idea af small base like a dry dock with square wood logs oak style on concrete something as a display....just an idea i share Edited March 12 by Mal_Belford Martinnfb 1
Mal_Belford Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 Hell yess. prepped this Plastic card for my testing and trying out new mediums. Surfacer first, then black primer, then splattermask.... Aaaaaand test subjekt is ready for tomorrows fun. all own mixed em fast homebrew colors, no need exacly as its a try out....and only a model lol. subtle enough, if seen right away its too much. this will do. TankBuster, Martinnfb, Sparzanza and 4 others 7
Martinnfb Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Definitely a nice way to break down the monotony of the orange color. Very cool. Cheers Martin Mal_Belford 1

Cheers Martin Thanks Martin. also try something else than aircraft, try new things and yes take it with you with new experiance and skills i learn on the way that can be applied in future project thats the reason i do theese builds and seems to work for me. and yes the Arado 196, all the extra has arrived, and extra, only one thing left, thats on its way, a book with photos for reference, hopefully. so meanwhile this build...as its crazy fun to do and build for me...due its completely different what im used to. so to say avoid AMS lol. so something different one in a while. Mal_Belford Posted March 13 Author Posted March 13 Allright, thanks google and youtube on this kit, seen a few builds on forums, and many pointed out a issue, if taken care early the avoided, thanks to those who shared this pitfalls specially for me thats a real noob in ships. the level difference between lower and upper bow, if non take care of, alot of sanding and putty, those who know me and my builds, i try to minimize it as much as possible. used a classic trick thats common with aircraft builders, fuselage wing root joints, a piece of sprue that press the fuselage to Close the gap. and yes applied here the same, and smooth, as dont wont to sand the surface to much, the surface details are crisp and delicate, few whipes with fine grit sanpaper its lost, and yes we do not like that, its a compromise....but not here, all intact, needed to scribe gently with radubs tools. upper and lower, to show. perfect with sprue that press the lower to level em panels. less work here. aaand yes primer.is on, used mr Surfacer 1200. And yes, small gaps, will use Vallejos putty that levels it out smooth with water, dont wanna lose details, all build are compromises. this will do just fine for me, nope dont fo crazy, its just a model and remember, have fun. the primer were painted with care, to get a perfect surface, smooth and error free, worked section by section, takes time but wort it and time saver, instead fo with one thick layer, and yes more work and redos, try to avoid em mistakes (yes we all done em fellow builders) scvrobeson, Out2gtcha, Sparzanza and 7 others 10
Out2gtcha Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Go Mal! I love the Sea Plane on the forward deck and helo in the rear deck. Mal_Belford and Martinnfb 2
Mal_Belford Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 never done a heli before, will those be ok to have on my "never done/builded" list and mark it as done? 😝 Archimedes and Martinnfb 2
Archimedes Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I built that very kit some years ago and loved every minute of it. You have made a fantastic start to it! kind regards, Paul Martinnfb and Mal_Belford 2
Mal_Belford Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 Sorry for n freq updates, were focused on the build, but hey many builder know em steps anyway. Aaaaan masking frenezi, steps by steps, mask, paint, mask againn, and so it went on.... well this is how far ive came....some PE work is coming closer, lol. And yes, that line orange and hull red its straight, illusion om the pic. Damn, what have i gone in to...lol, ship building, geez completely different for me, breaking new ground indeed, alot of things that i will have with me when going back to aircraft building dor sure....new skills to be learned and mastered o think. allt his will do just fine for me, as im the one thats stuck with this model lol.
