Phantom2 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) Hi All! Yet another Spitfire build and this time I have decided on this; PCM´s Spitfire Mk.XIVc, a true Short-run multimedia kit. In the medium siezed box you find; Decals for 8 options and a large A2 sheet in full color, Top views… Side profiles; This is my choice for this build, a Spitfire based in Seletar (Singapore, I had to look it up!), September 1945. Top view of my option; The parts are typical short-run, well moulded and quite detailed, minimal mould seams and almost no flash. Typical high quality short run. The clear parts are very nice and clear and totally scratch free. The resin parts are quite detailed and very well done. Both fishtail and circular exhaust stubs are included… Four spoked wheels… The etched set comes from Eduard… A BIG decal sheet, it covers the entire bottom of the box! Perfectly printed by Cartograf, nice clear colours and perfect in register. This is as good as decals get! A High-Quality kit and you get all that you need in the box! Buut, there´s always something…. I got a pair of brass barrels, but I can´t remember where I got them or who did them, I found them in my stash. A high-quality short run kit! I have built two PCM kits so far, a Spitfire Mk IXe and a Macchi Mc.202 Folgore, this will be my third kit and I expect it to be as good as the earlier kits. The build has started! More to come soon! alain11 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Hi I built it as a PR IX a while ago , it's a good and pleasant kit ,that's a shame it's no longer available ..... too bad Alain Phantom2 1
MikeMaben Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Will be watching Stefan, I have this one in the stash too. PCMs can turn out nice with a little extra elbow grease. Finished the Mc200 and Hurricane MkI. Have fun.
dennismcc Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Test fit, sand, test fit, repeat until it fits then glue, simples. In their day these kits were sensational for all the goodies that they came with, even now they end up looking rather nice. I have just finished a run of PCM builds, Fabric wing Hurricane, Hawker Tempest, Spitfire IX, Macchi MC200, and Re 2005, previously I also built their Fiat G55. I found that none were shake and bake kits but they do scrub up nicely, as I also have an XIV in the stash it will be interesting to see how this one pans out. Cheers Dennis Phantom2 1
Phantom2 Posted May 23 Author Posted May 23 (edited) Hi All! Yes, I have built the Spitfire Mk.IXe and the Macchi Mc.202 Folgore earlier and both were really nice and fun kits. As Dennis and Mike said, If you take it slow and easy and test fit a lot, they go together quite well. AND you´ll get all you need in the box, which makes them very cost-effective! I like them a lot and usually have a lot of fun while building them! I´ll start with what I call “destructive building”, ie removing ejection towers/marks, any flash and as here, removing the wingtips. Several projects on the go gives a quite cluttered table… The wheel wells are glued to the bottom wing. Very good fit, indeed… The backing plates for the exhausts glued in place… More to come soon! Phantom2 Posted June 11 Author Posted June 11 (edited) I have been sick so not much done for a while but the build still lives. The new, Brass cannons are soo beautiful, the plastic just can´t compare! The bulkhead with the pilot seat and armor assembled, I drilled out the all the holes in the frames, in the back seat and in the seat´s sides…. Sorry for the lousy picture! The very detailed resin panels glued to the fuselage sides…. The interior of the wing coolers assembled…. The wheels primed with UMP Black and then painted Alclad White Aluminium… Then I Painted the wheels with a mix of Satin Black (Hu.85 and Extra Dark Sea Grey Hu.123), this time the paint became way too glossy (usually It gets Matt!). I´ll fix that later. A new Cockpit hatch and crowbar from BarracudaCast, I just LOVE Roy´s extra parts! More to come soon Stefan Stefan Edited June 11 by Phantom2 Landrotten Highlander, MikeMaben, denders and 2 others 5
