I just wanted to share the latest package to come from China via AliExpress.

Can you tell what it is yet?

It's hobby-sized drill press. It caught my attention when it popped up on Facebook.  I always have trouble drilling holes when accuracy is required.  Resin spinners and wheels for example.  A drill press, especially this small, might suit my needs perfectly.

The drill motor comes with speed control.

To hold a part securely while drilling, I purchased this vise from the same vendor.

It comes with these screw in adapters, which I thought would work well on circular parts like wheels and spinners.

The bottom plates has some attached magnets but I don't think they come into play when using this drill press.  It also comes with three metal circular plugs that kind of fit into the three openings on the bottom but I have no idea what they are for either.

As a first test, I thought I'd take a spare wheel from a Revell 109 kit and drill through the opening.  If the drill press works and I can level the wheel reasonably square within the vise, the hole should come out perfectly through the hub on the other side without enlarging the existing hole.

That worked out ok.  The hole seems to be perfectly centered.

For comparison, you can see the type of hub that I drilled through.

All in all, I think I found a very useful tool!

Affordable too!  I got both the drill press and vise delivered for $121.

Hi John,

I recently purchased the same drill/vice combination and have been very pleased. The chuck (not the drill) can show the slightest run out but that seems dependent on the vagaries of the jaws' movements when tightening. I will be looking for an upgraded chuck but in the meantime, it makes the process so much more reliable and considerably more accurate. There is great benefit in being able to drill perpendicular rather than just 'eyeballing.' It was a luxury for me, to be honest, but worth the money.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for posting this, John. I've been seeing these advertised a lot lately, but have been reluctant to purchase one just in case they were junk. Sounds like they might be a useful investment!

The small plugs maybe for fixture tables to align it with pre-drilled holes.

What's it marketed as on Ali? I'd prefer this to the monster I have at the moment.

I bought one from the above.

Note, I saw a post on FB that someone received an email stating that they were going to shut down their US warehouse on 4/20 because of the tariff situation. Whether that’s true or not, I have no idea.

looks cool

i guess not designed for those with long flowing locks or you'll be wrapped round that driver band before you can say '1970s engineering' lol

If anyone wants to upgrade the chuck (mine had excessive runout), this product is a very good alternative. I originally wanted a keyless chuck but the good ones are prohibitively expensive. I didn't bother with the ebay / aliexpress chucks. This one has the correct arbour taper and holds up to 4mm bits.

Currently on sale in Australia as well.
Cheers
