This is the big decision in 3D retail as the prints take twice as long... Technically this shouldn't be strictly true, Peter, as thinner layers don't take as long to cure, so you should be able to lower your exposure time per layer for 30 microns, compared with doing them at 60. Sure, it won't be half, but should be in the order of 25-30%. So a print at 30 microns will definitely take longer than a print at 60 microns, but if you set the exposure time appropriately, it should be substantially less than twice as long. So a print at 30 microns will definitely take longer than a print at 60 microns, but if you set the exposure time appropriately, it should be substantially less than twice as long. I did a calculation once for 2.5 second exposure 30 micron thickness versus 3.5 sec exposure for 50 micron thickness. That is a one second difference per layer. However, the exposure time is only a portion of the total cycle time per layer. There is lift time, retract time, and even some "rest" time, all unaffected by layer thickness. Total time per cycle is more like 10 seconds or so depending on settings. So going with a 30 micron setting versus a 60 micron setting saves you really only 10 or 20% time per layer. But you have twice as many layers of course. My 30 micron prints take noticeably longer than my 50 micron prints. Edited March 6 by JayW wunwinglow and Martinnfb 2
monthebiff Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I just want one and it will effect my planned stash builds for this year as I've always wanted a Defiant and always un the night scheme. Super excited and hope O can get one of the first 100. Have you considered a pre order option on this one Peter? Regards. Andy williamj and scvrobeson 2
scvrobeson Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Those clear parts look fantastic, another testament to Peter and Tolga's skills. Matt Tolga ULGUR and williamj 1 1

Oldbaldguy Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Oh how I love this site. In one breath we’ve gone from talking about a forlorn Brit turret fighter to French cheeses and wine. What a wonderous modern world we live in. dennismcc and Martinnfb 2

Pete Roberts Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Come along Tolga! Time to put down the cheese and wine, and crack on with this build. You have an audience here waiting with bated breathe, turning blue! I hope you've brought back some goodies for us all - a nice little number from the Medoc or Bordeaux? Tolga ULGUR and Landrotten Highlander 2

Pete Roberts Posted March 19 Posted March 19 (edited) Excellent Tolga! Nice work. And the Defiant is coming along nicely too.... Edit: one concern I have is that there are layers evident from the 3D printing in some photos. Hopefully Peter's changes to the printing process will help, but is there any other way of eliminating these? Sanding? Edited March 19 by Pete Roberts Tolga ULGUR and Martinnfb 2
