Breaker Posted February 5 Posted February 5 (edited) Trying to get back into forum posting a bit more instead of lurking. This was brought on by Finn posting this thread and some of the references photos I found when browing the US CENTCOMM page. Planning on building a Tamiya F-15E but with a large amount of aftermarket for the loadout on the right. Breaker Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 I built Jan's cockpit a while back and really enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of the current 3DP pre-painted cockpits as it feels like the slippery slope to diecasts in my personal opinion. Whilst this is a 3DP printed set, all of the painting and detailing is on the modeller. scvrobeson, A-10LOADER, chuck540z3 and 11 others 14
Breaker Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 For Air to Air, I've used Tamiya F-16 AIM-120s, paired with Eduard AIM-120A decals. I didn't like the resin AIM-120s, they didn't look right to me. I did use the Eduard AIM-9s which can be very fragile or finiky with the tail fins. I tend to find out of 2 boxes, I'll get 6 useable missiles out of 8. Finally, to mount them to I've got KSPs LAU rails, with some Anyz and random decals to make them look a bit more real. All of these are MRP-38 and the missile bands are painted on. They haven't been weathered yet, I'm intending to leave that until the whole airframe is built and base painted so that I can tie everything together. scvrobeson, LSP_Kevin, Dragon and 8 others 11
Breaker Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Fuel Tanks. Firstly, I won't be using the kit fuel tanks. They have gaping trenches where the should be raised welds and the shape doesn't quite look right. Both KSP and Reskit do fuel tanks and both look excellent, however the Reskit tanks are significantly lighter and on a model that will have a considerable amount of resin used, I want to keep the weight down where I can and cutdown on labour & dust thinning them down. The KSP tanks I've got will end up my F-15C so they aren't wasted. Reskit KSP Dragon, John1, denders and 8 others 11
geedubelyer Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Excellent. I shall follow this with interest. The game has moved on since I built one of these. I'm eager to see how all of the modern aftermarket looks, especially the burner cans. Keep it up

Keep it up I started collecting for this over 8 years ago and I've got some older cans like Phase Hanger or GT Resin - The newer 3DP ones are a country mile ahead of them. geedubelyer 1
geedubelyer Posted February 5 Posted February 5 I applaud your decision to remain old school and paint your cockpit, particularly since the job you've done is spectacular That is some seriously sharp painting. Bravo! This all bodes well for what's to come. A-10LOADER and chuck540z3 2
Breaker Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Kit ejection seats that I've added belts to made of tape and PE from the Tamiya F-16 again. The centre harness is also F-16 parts, as the F-16 kit gives you two sets and I happen to have two in stock, so worked out nicely. patricksparks, scvrobeson, geedubelyer and 6 others 9
chuck540z3 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Very nice start and I totally agree with your cockpit detail philosophy. One comment though, if it isn't too late, is that all current F-15's have black seats with a sheepskin seating area. For early F-15E's, the green seats are fine. Cheers, Chuck A-10LOADER 1

Cheers, Chuck Artistic decision Chuck - If I went with the black on black, the whole cockpit just becomes grey and black. Having the green lets me do some oils and highlights that pop out a bit more. Odd decision when I'm intending to replace lots of other errors but it makes me happier when I look at it! Edit - now I re-read that, I may just repaint them and stipple the seat base to bring it in line. Edited February 6 by Breaker geedubelyer and chuck540z3 2
ROM Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Hello excellent work! Reskit plan to release a full 3D Printed set for the exhausts. They told me by email. The set you have have limited details on the base of the cans, due to limits of casting process. I have this large scale strike eagle on plans for 2025 or 2026, so I will follow with great interest bye Brett M 1

I find it slightly vexxing, considering I invested heavily in their start up line up, only to find they're releasing better products of the same item less than a year later but it is what it is! Breaker Posted Sunday at 10:01 PM Author Posted Sunday at 10:01 PM (edited) BRU-61 and it's pylon adaptor are completed. The Eduard decals have completely gone to pieces, so can't use many of them. More poor Eduard quality. Reskit GBU-38s are getting painted up as well. Some of the 3DP texture is visible in gloss but once the oils and flatcoat go down, I can't see it being an issue. I like the selection of fusing options that's included. Edited Sunday at 10:07 PM by Breaker geedubelyer, Brett M, LSP_Kevin and 5 others 8
Brett M Posted Sunday at 11:20 PM Posted Sunday at 11:20 PM Ooooh, another Strike Eagle! Looking forward to the progress, looks like a great start already Breaker 1
