Kagemusha Posted February 1 Posted February 1 ย The dimensions are probably exaggerated due to the camera lens. ย WORLD EXCLUSIVE ๐ซ๐ท๐ฆ๐ช๐ฌ๐ท๐ฎ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ช๐ฌ๐ท๐ธ I can finally reveal the project we have been working on for several months now. It is the production of the FIRST RAFALE at 1/32, which was given as a gift to the UAE Minister of Defence during the plane's rollout today, in the presence of Mr. Eric Trappier and the Minister of Defence Mr. Sรฉbastien Le Cornu. The dream team that led this project with me, is composed of Decals FFSMC Productions Joffrey Seguin for the decals and of course the king of design and 3D printing Eric Jolly. I am only the humble director. This is the first step in the development of this model, versions C and M, all French and foreign imports as well as AAE and export booklets will follow. What an honour to participate in the influence of France ๐ซ๐ท๐ซ๐ท๐ซ๐ท and in the collaboration with my host country ๐ฆ๐ช๐ฆ๐ช๐ฆ๐ช. Here are some photos of the model, those of the ceremony will follow. ย More details/photos on this Britmodeller thread courtesy of Mr Homebee. dutik, Jan_G, scvrobeson and 17 others 15 5
Violator1991 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I'd love a 1/32 Rafale, more than one actually. I surely am aware of and do not fail to appreciate the hard work needed to produce these kits, but 350 Euros still sounds a bit... steep! Martinnfb 1
Zola25 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 (edited) Finally the Rafale is getting some love. It is a beautiful aircraft. ย It seems to be a little off though.. cannot put my finger on it but the proportions seems to be not entirely correct..ย It is expensive at 350 EUR for sure but I will get one if the final product is nice. I agree it takes a lot of work to develop these kits to be sure and I'd love to have one but............ 350 Euros[$365 USD ] is way too steep for my current economic strata. It DOES look good though. Surely an IM company could do one of these, along with a few other subjects but I digress. firefly7 and Martinnfb 2
mattcour Posted February 2 Posted February 2 And it doesn't have weapons or even external fuel tanks! Rafale is one of my favourite modern jets but I'll have to skip this one thanks to that price range. CRAZY IVAN5, Martinnfb and Stevepd 2 1
mozart Posted Monday at 07:17 AM Posted Monday at 07:17 AM So thereโs a bit of gnashing of teeth about the price of (anticipated) โฌ350 for the 3D printed kit, and I think weโre in fairly uncharted waters here. What IS a price that yer normal punter would be willing to pay? As far as Iโm concerned if it was a subject that I really wanted and I trusted the producerโs skills and accuracy, Iโd take the hit and buy it at that price, though it would be the second most expensive kit ever (after the currently untouched BM Lanc!). It is a bit sharp isn't it. With a balance for the developers time and costs to take the plunge in doing something nobody else has done. But on the customer side of the market they see the purchase price. Equally it looks great in the photo above, but............. geedubelyer 1
norbert Posted Tuesday at 12:37 PM Posted Tuesday at 12:37 PM What you see here is the first ever build kit prototype of the 1/32 Rafale, that needed to be ready for a celebration in the UAE. The mud mover accessories were recently drawn, some corrections were made to some details. At this point, we have to wait. Regarding the price tag, We usualy have the same with a plastic kit plus AM goodies at that size. So, if we do not need AM goodies, or if we think it is an AM goodies ultra complete set... geedubelyer, thierry laurent, Zola25 and 2 others 4 1
dutik Posted Tuesday at 01:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:27 PM Nice model, excellent paintjob ย As a kit it is BWR for me. Beyoud Wallet Range, that is. ย Regards - dutik firefly7 and CRAZY IVAN5 2

That may be true for the total outlay for an IM kit plus whatever aftermarket one buys, but the difference is that one can purchase an IM kit, and then add the aftermarket at a later date as funds allow.ย So ~$150 US for a kit and then spending another $150 or more in increments later is not quite directly comparable to laying out almost $400 US (gotta figure postage in the cost as well) in one go. ย ย CRAZY IVAN5 1
dutik Posted Tuesday at 08:17 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:17 PM Not to mention that a 3D printed Skyraider variant never kitted before (size is more or less the same, shorter but longer wingspan) with full ordnance, positionable moving surfaces, the option for both folded and unfolded wings, landing gear at full or no load, 3 different seats, different dashboards and a superdetailled radial engine is available for less than half price... ย But in the end it is your money. Time will tell if there is a market for models that expensive or not. But nice to have an option if a Rafale is a must have to you. ย Regards - dutik firefly7, Stevepd and CRAZY IVAN5 3
geedubelyer Posted Tuesday at 08:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:46 PM (edited) This is a fascinating topic.ย ย It's brave of someone to produce a Rafale and way overdue to my mind.ย ย I'm on the fence when it comes to 3D printing of very large components like a full aircraft.ย ย Jet Mads' Viggen reportedly exhibits layer lines in some areas which is bound to take some rectifying. That feels to be a similar product to this?ย How much did Jet Mads' charge for their Viggens? ย Pricing is a huge challenge for a manufacturer.ย It needs to be affordable enough to be tempting to customers but high enough to give a return on the invested time and effort for the producer.ย ย I wonder if Peter at Airscale and similar other 3D print pioneers keep a weather eye on topics like this?ย Edited Tuesday at 08:47 PM by geedubelyer CRAZY IVAN5 and Stevepd 2
GusM Posted Tuesday at 10:56 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:56 PM Having built the JetMads Viggen I can happily report that the printer layers problem has been overblown. Nothing that can't be solved relatively easily. Kagemusha, geedubelyer, Violator1991 and 2 others 4 1
