One thing at a time guys, I have ideas a plans for more Meteor options, BUT I just one man. I am currently trying to complete the U.16 conversion, I think it is almost done. A lot more work than first thought, but that is always the case.ย
I do agree with Tim though, we always want something more or different to what the kits supply no matter what๐Ÿ˜‚

You need to use the replicators for yourself fromย  Star Trekย ๐Ÿ˜€

To all the Meteor experts,

Does Gloster Meteor F.4 use the same landing gears and wheels as Meteor F.8? Reason I'm asking is I have the 1/32 scale HK Models Gloster Meteor F.4 with aftermarket wheels from Eduard and landing gears from SAC, and I am thinking of using these sets on the Meteor F.8 if they share the same components.

It looks like the main gear wheels/hubs are the same, however the nose hubs are different, it's probably only a matter of time before some dedicated AM wheels are on the market, I wouldn't put the SAC gear anywhere near the Revell kit, they're unlikely to fit, and will be of a much inferior quality, the F.8/FR.9 kit is superb, and perhaps the only AM needed is a seat.

I wouldn't put SAC legs anywhere near any decent 1:32 scale kit. Butย especiallyย one using a cantilever design like the Meteor.ย

Not even sure the SAC gear is useful chopped into bits to use as a nose weight โ€“ the metal used doesn't appear to possess sufficient mass.

As some have already noted, it's yet to be determined if spare Revell inlets may be applied to the HKM kit.

ย

With a Fisher T.7 conversion for one of the two HKM F.4s to hand there's enough Meteorness here with just a brace of new Revells, one possibly to be finished as a non-warty red & yellow drone โ€” but a follow-on Revell T.7 would open up a bunch of NF and TT possibilities. Yes please Revell.ย

Just dipping a toe in the water here; if masks were to be available for alternative Meteor colour schemes, what might โ€œpopularโ€ choices be?ย

Hi Max!

Main colour schemes for RAF a/c seems to be two, besides the all high speed silver finish:

-Early; Light Slate Grey/Medium Sea Grey upper, PRU Blue lowers. High demarcation between upper and lower. This scheme is interesting with respect to masks, as the demarcation between uppers and lowers is complicated on the engine nacelles. Two different interpretations seems to have existed (camo on the upper rear of the nacelles or PRU Blue)

-Late; Dark Green/Dark Sea Grey uppers, PRU Blue or High Speed Silver lowers. Low demarcation between upper and lower.ย
ย

Very well described by Paul Lucas in Oct and Nov issues of SAM, in two part Colour Conundrum article. The Nov issue also has an โ€Aircraft in Profileโ€ article with lots of very nice colour profiles.ย
ย

Later scheme much more common, but personally I find the early scheme much more striking and interesting.ย

Got my Revell Meteor today and I must say, the price is very good for what you get!

ย

A new mould 400+ part kit with aftermarket decals (Cartograf), painted Etch (Eduard) and pre-cut paint masks (Eduard), AND a VERY nice Duke Hawkings Book and a beautiful poster!

ย

At the same time I got the same scaleย  Kotare Spitfire Mk.I (Early), and that was more expensive then the Revell Metor!

ย

Two Beautiful kits as an early christmas gift for myself!

You describe the two FR schemes plus the fighter scheme. There was also, later, light aircraft grey overall, and a variation with black and yellow TT stripes underneath.ย

The Meteor spanned the changeover from unit codes to bar markings, although I can't recall offhand any in camo with unit codes.

It would be very informative and interesting to learn more about how much effort/investment each company has spent on research, how much the plastic sprues cost for each kit, how many kits are made, etc.ย

I have to agree with you but I suspect that info is proprietary in nature. TBF I've often wondered about that sort of information from time to time.

I havenโ€™t checked them against the kits wheels yet, but the ResKit wheels for the HKM F.Mk4 are gorgeous. They are, as usual, extremely sharp in detail. So sharp that I expect them to improve the kit a little, even if the kits wheels are in themselves without fault.ย
