And you could add that once he's done that, he would then have done a lot of the leg work to produce a Tempest!! Win - win! Edited March 1 by mozart Madmax, MikeMaben, Derek B and 8 others 8 3
Mal_Belford Posted March 1 Posted March 1 This is crazy absolutely crazy....carving up a old build and redo and hot it up. but, cant help it, i like crazy stuff. Martinnfb and mozart 1 1
Greif8 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Very complex, but fun looking build Max, and you are doing a superb job as always. The CMK Napier-Sabre engine looks fantastic; CMK has upped their game with this aftermarket kit. Ernest Martinnfb 1

mozart Posted March 27 Author Posted March 27 (edited) I wonder how Peter's "friend" is getting on?! Haven't had much chance to get to the bench myself recently, though made some "off-shoot" progress today. I received the Modelu ground crew figures a week ago....hmmm..they're OK but I've seen better: and when cleaned up a bit: That left hand is awful! The moulding over all is rather soft and vague. The size has me slightly puzzled too, supposed to be 1/32 scale but I think they are more like 1/35 when I compare them with other figures, and yes, I recognise that there is lots of variation in scale figures. However, I looked at my diminishing stock of Hornet heads and hands (also 1/35) and managed to change their gender and add a bit more realistic detail: The "new" right leg was also added to the right hand figure, the original was poor. I envisage something like this on the Tiffy: Edited April 4 by mozart Greg W, Derek B, Jim Barry and 13 others 16

Greif8 Posted March 28 Posted March 28 The Hornet heads are a massive improvement Max. I thought the printing of the facial features was far too soft to be able to paint well; the Hornet heads are nice and crisp as they almost always are. Good work doing the conversion work man! Ernest

Ernest Thanks Ernest, I knew you’d appreciate the difference in the figures. When I look at the Hornet range I’m amazed at how such facial expressions and features are possible in such a relatively small scale. Real works of art! Mal_Belford 1

For that main reason I have decided that I’m going to start a separate thread for the build of, and of course facts related to, the mighty Sabre. It will be linked to this Typhoon thread and vice versa of course. See here. Edited April 4 by mozart Archimedes, Mal_Belford and Derek B 3

mozart Posted April 25 Author Posted April 25 (edited) With the Napier Sabre engine nearing completion, my attention is turning to the surgery required to the MDC fuselage halves, cutting off the front end forward of the oil tank and, on the starboard side, cutting out the door opening. The Bentley drawings show a subtle difference between the shape of the earlier car-door and the panel replacing it on the bubble-top: Not to mention of course the completely different profiles of the windshield and canopy. The Revell one isn't great but I can't see too many options for a more accurate alternative. The Bentley drawings aren’t cheap, but the amount of information on them and the accuracy is such that it gives real confidence in applying any changes. mozart Posted May 3 Author Posted May 3 (edited) So the front end has been cut away: I wasn’t sure how the fit of the engine and bearers would go, but it’s now clear that there’s a lot of resin to grind away: ….as shown in red. Ah well, it is what it is, but I also have to bear in mind the way in which the “tongues” on the wings interlock with each other and the fuselage when glued in place! Nothing is as simple as it seems. Edited May 3 by mozart patricksparks, dennismcc, Greg W and 16 others 19
