Hope you are doing well. 2 hours ago, Shoggz said: This is a really inspiring build. Thank you Richard--that means a great deal. Cheers, Tom Martinnfb and Dennis7423 2

Anthony in NZ Posted January 30, 2025 Posted January 30, 2025 Absolutely superb!! I've been down bad with Covid and havent been motivated to do any modelling. Seeing this makes me feel a whole lot more motivated...thank you!! You really have pulled this off in a masterful way....you are to be congratulated mate! And you dont need to rivet it! Cheers Anthony Martinnfb and Uncarina 1 1
Uncarina Posted January 31, 2025 Author Posted January 31, 2025 Anthony, Your post made my day! Your perspective means a lot. If I were to do this again I’d start with the Kotare V kit and order just the appropriate Tamiya sprues—much cheaper this way. It’s definitely a doable conversion without heroic measures. I wish you a fast recovery! Cheers, Tom Anthony in NZ and Martinnfb 2
Biggles87 Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 Tamiya AS12 is one of my favourite metallic paints, but not always for primer. I was looking at a 1/48 Wildcat a few weeks ago which I had built about 15 yeas ago using AS12 for the main airframe and it looked like the paint had actually oxidised! John Martinnfb 1

I’ve been using it for over ten years now and haven’t had an issue. Cheers, Tom Martinnfb 1
Uncarina Posted February 3, 2025 Author Posted February 3, 2025 (edited) I'm making progress, having created the masks for the markings and have started painting: As you can see I went with Sky Blue (MRP 397) for the underside with a Sky (MRP 118) drop tank. I went with the lighter color after reading accounts in the Colour Conundrums publication about how this paint was loaded aboard the USS Wasp along with others and that there were multiple instances of the undersides of the Spitfires being repainted. I'm now really looking forward to getting the topside paints applied. Cheers, Tom Edited February 7 by Uncarina LSP_Kevin, denders, Martinnfb and 12 others 15
John1 Posted February 3, 2025 Posted February 3, 2025 Wonderful work Tom. I hope you’ll go into some detail on using those masks. I’m intrigued by this method. Martinnfb and Uncarina 2

I’m intrigued by this method. Thanks John, I appreciate it. With your dedication, skill, and desire to model original subjects you would be doing yourself an enormous favor getting a craft cutter. I use the Silhouette Portrait (https://www.silhouetteamerica.com/portrait-4?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAACYgA6ecfknT8IaGuCrlGpoRKmLdR&gclid=CjwKCAiA74G9BhAEEiwA8kNfpa_IzKsaazvXwtgxwpSDlwbyLNB6-ZooCRoRDNbi59N4qo8cR-27zRoC5ooQAvD_BwE) with Designer software. The learning curve might be steep at first but think of all the money saved by no longer relying on decal sheets. Also, check out the LSP sister site: https://www.scalemodelpaintmasks.com Cheers, Tom Edited February 4, 2025 by Uncarina Shoggz, Martinnfb and John1 3

Thunnus Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 Great work Tom! Here here on the Portrait cutter! Just curious... when you produce the masks on your Portrait, do cut out each mask by hand afterwards? I typically draw boxes around each mask so that the Portrait produces a separate mask for each marking. Uncarina and MikeC 2
