wingman777 Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Almost time to install the cockpit. Azgaron, rafju, Landrotten Highlander and 5 others 8
wingman777 Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 I finally seated the cockpit in the fuselage. Just sayin' I really like this kit! The fit is very tight and sure even though it's a limited run kit with no locator pins but in some ways it makes it easier. The detail is adequate but it's not difficult to customize and add more. Azgaron, Martinnfb, Landrotten Highlander and 1 other 4
wingman777 Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 Most of us like to leave the canopy open to expose all the cockpit details. Still, I'm tempted to close this one because it makes for such a sleek and streamlined look. Landrotten Highlander, LSP_Kevin, rafju and 1 other 4
wingman777 Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 (edited) After carving and sanding several sets of "wooden props" from balsa and bass wood, I ordered some wood grain decals. Didn't like them. Edited December 25, 2024 by wingman777 LSP_Kevin and Azgaron 2
wingman777 Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 (edited) To me, they don't really look like wood, so I decided to paint a few blades and that looked more like real wood grain. Edited December 25, 2024 by wingman777 Landrotten Highlander, LSP_Kevin, DugyB and 2 others 5
wingman777 Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 Well, I just realized that this project has been extended until the 31st. I'm probably the only model nerd working on a model and hammering away on the keyboard at this time on Christmas Eve. I was sweating it out, trying to beat the deadline but now I'm in the clear. I'll pick it back up after Christmas. To all my fellow "model nerds" across the globe, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas celebration! Be sure to tell us all about the new model kits you get as gifts. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! DugyB, MikeMaben, rafju and 1 other 4
wingman777 Posted December 27, 2024 Author Posted December 27, 2024 In summary, I've had the opportunity to finally build a long-time favorite aircraft in my favorite 1/32 scale. The Ta-152 is what I'd consider to be the pinnacle of the Luftwaffe, prop technology during WWII. incredible speed and agility, graceful and attractive yet lethal with two 20mm cannons and a 30mm to boot. The Pacific Coast Model kit has been an enjoyable build, I'd gladly do it again. This kit provided some corrections from the original release, and though I made a few mistakes but was able to recover. There was satisfactory success with the tricky "bare metal" finish and my first attempt at painting simulated wood grain. All in all, I'm very pleased with the results. DugyB and rafju 1 1
