Greetings fellow LSP'ers.

It's been a while since my last WIP.  But thanks once again to fellow LSP'er Mr. G I am able to have the materials to make the 1/32 Scale Trumpeter JU-87B hopefully look decent.

I'm pretty sure we've all seen Thierry Laurent's brilliant post on what is wrong with this kit.  I won't be fixing everything.  I just don't have that kind of dedication.

Provided by Mr. G. is an ancient 1/32 scale JU-87B made by Revell.

I built this one as a 12 or 13 year old.  I have to admit, I trashed the thing.  Especially the snake decal.

I am mainly going to make changes to the horrible front end, the squat LG, ETC racks and ordinance.  The only AM will be a Master Barrels Mg-15 barrel and sights.  Of course, a figure or two will be mandatory.

I wanted to get the majority of the hacking done in the nacelle area done before my first post.  I really had to hack apart the Revell motor to get it to fit amongst the Trumpy parts.

The Trumpy exhausts are much better than the Revell parts.  So, I had to use the bits of the Trumpy kit that would allow them to be used.

The Revell Radiator bath has a much more elegant shape than the Trumpy.  Also, the radiators close-able louvres look much better than Trumpy's  grill-look.

The most important point of this early part of the exercise is to get the nacelle parts to meet up properly behind the Revell Spinner.

As you can see by the yellow arrow, there is a slight length issue to be dealt with later.  My cut marks aren't pretty.  But they'll be hidden anyway.

It took a bit of work to get things right up front.

But a clean look up front was achieved.

Of course, there is a lot of work to do to get it pretty.  And tape doesn't do a great job of holding little pieces in place.  But we'll get there.

Propeller blades are up for changing, too.  the Trumpy blades will be hacked and re-shaped to hopefully resemble the JS-11 blades that should go on the machine and the Revell blades will be gently removed.

Thanks for looking, and lemme know what you think.

cheers!

Good to see you back at the bench Gary!  This is an ambitious project to be sure and I am interested to see how you tackle it.  You have made a solid start!

Welcome back, fellow modellers!

I find it somewhat therapeutic cutting and filing and sanding.   But every man has his limits...  I'm OK for now.

After getting the general shape and front alignment of the propeller spinner right, I had to start working on the rear end of the nacelle.  My two concerns were alignment of the profile of the nacelle, and that the propeller axis was in the right place.  Not sure where I would cut next, I spent a couple days looking at resources and was still not really certain how I would approach the problem.  I had hopes that I wouldn't have to do any cutting around the crew compartment.

Then, a stroke of luck!  I happened upon a facebook post where some guy was proudly displaying his Trumpy JU-87 B with it's desert camo.  I immediately saw what was so wrong with the kit.  Aside from shape differences, the axis of the propeller was far too high.  so, referring to drawings, I was able to see that the axis of the propeller coincides closely with the top edge of the wing where it meets the fuselage.

When I aligned my nacelle with the top edge of the wing, it becomes apparent that the fuselage under the wing does not slope down enough.  This saved me from having to mess around with the crew compartment.

But I still needed to reshape the fairing immediately in front of the canopy.

And there was much to be done with the Revell cowling.  Firstly I had to make it's profile match the profile of the trumpy fuselage.  I used my favorite quick filler of Black CA and baking soda as filler.

I also wanted to fix some small problems with the upper intakes and exits where Revell had some ambiguous shapes.  this included creating a new flap for the exit end.

The flap is only dry fitted and will get better alignment, later.

At any rate, nothing has been put to the primer test, yet.  I want to make it all work, before I make it pretty.

Thanks for looking, and as always, I'd love to hear your thoughts or ideas.

You are an animal, sir!! Has anyone ever made corrected AM nose for this kit?

Also, didn't Rutman make a set of VS111 props for the Stukas?

IIRC these were for his G conversion.  And Fw-190D.  The B needs the VS-11.  Same as He-111
