UH-60L Blackhawk - OIF 2007

Finally done with my close to 1 year project building a UH-60L out of the Kittyhawk MH-60S kit (not nearly as easy of a conversion as I originally anticipated).  To the base kit, I added a ton of aftermarket (including Werner's Wings decals, floor armor panels, horizontal stab, interior bits, Live Resin M240's and mounts, Reedoak's helmets and helmet bags, Quinta seat belts, Eduard steam gauge IP panel) and an equal amount of scratch built details.     Also replaced all the recessed rivets with either .03mm solder balls or Archer's awesome rivet decals. 

 

Subject is a hardworking Lima flying in circa 2007 OIF making another "ass and trash" run out to a FOB.

The weathering looks great. It’s got that “used” look, just like the real ones. I also like the non-slip surface on the cabin floor. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! That non-slip on the cockpit floor is actually BAPS plates (Blackhawk Armored Panel System).   A floor armor kit that was added to every UH-60 that was deployed to Iraq / Afghanistan.    The set came from Werner's Wings.

The Black Hawk— the helicopter I like best of all... Maybe it was a photo the local newspaper published of the invasion of Grenada; I had never seen one before, and I fell in love with it. Its performance is equally fantastic... I love it!

What was your source of soldering balls and how much did you needed to cover the whole thing? I am planning to challenge my sanity with the KA-52 riveting job.

Thank you! I got the solder balls from Amazon.  I think my WIP has details about how I applied them.   Regarding them, I burned out pretty quick on using them exclusively.  Ended up using Archer’s rivet decals for the straight runs and the solder balls for smaller, curved or non-uniform runs.  Much quicker and I was very pleased with the results.  Have fun on your Ka-52 build, that’s a bad -ass helo!
