1:32 Icelandic Fine Arts FA.2 Sea Harrier (Pre-Production Prototype)

Hello friends

Alan Wilson of Icelandic Fine Arts, has sent me a early prototype example of his 1:32 FA.2 Sea Harrier.

About a year ago, after seeing the Flying S Models review on YouTube, I sent Alan a email so I could get on the pre-order list for the FA.2. I did not want to miss out on this opportunity! I found out that a FRS.1 and a GR.3 were in the pipeline and I signed up for a Falklands era Sea Harrier as well.

Unfortunately, these kits did not go into production and the project has been cancelled.

Below, is a first ever look at the only complete IFA FA.2 Sea Harrier kit in existence (as of August 7, 2024). A prototype that allows us a sneak peek at Alan's hard work.

My example is comprised mostly of cast resin, with some additional 3D printed components as well. 49 parts in total.

Here, all of the large internal parts, except the fan blades, are installed in the fuselage. Cockpit tub, front wheel well, intake bell housing and aft wheel well.

A look at the surface detail on the wing. The engraved panel lines and rivets on the fuselage are not showing up very well, in pictures taken with my phone, so that will have to wait until I can spray the exterior with Mr. Surfacer.

Interesting! I thought this project was dead in the water, and that IFA had shut down.

+1 on that. Thought IFA had ‘Gone West’.

Kind regards,

Paul

Yes, IFA is no longer trading. I have been gifted some early examples that Alan had worked up in the development process.

Good luck, it looks like an interesting project.

Thanks Matt. Although it is a limited run garage kit, it is one of the better ones to come down the pike for sure. Anyone with experience, converting aircraft with elaborate resin aftermarket sets could build this. Its not for a inexperienced modeler but this kit would be appreciated by more advanced builders, who have a grasp on just how difficult it is to produce something of this quality. I like it, a diamond in the rough.

I hope this comes to production for you "jet" guys.   Happy for you all.  :clap2:The vortex generators on the upper wing must have been a lot of fun to make and cast, eh?  rea

Hi Troy

It is a tour de force of resin casting. The surface of the fuselage is so smooth, I am going to go over the entire thing with a gray Scotch Brite so that the surfacer has something to grab on to.

If you get in contact with Alan, I'd recommend that you confirm you're talking to the correct person - particularly if there's any money involved. Apparently, his account was hacked a few years ago.

This was provided as a friendly word-of-warning - nothing more. No disrespect to anyone is intended. I've met Alan a few times and he's a very decent and honest person.

Cheers.

Chris.

At first glance it appears that it could take some effort to produce an accurate Harrier.

That is always the feeling I got as well. I'd love a 32nd Sea Harrier but it always seemed like a lot of material for a conversion, and felt more like it should be a full separate kit.

Here's hoping it's all somehow on the up and up and no one is trying to pull anything.
