Javlin1 Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 I have been working on this one since Oct23 let's say between the kit and goodies I have some real money in this one.The smaller guns, search lights, binoculars, range finders, firehoses have been replace by 3D AM parts.I made all the ladders that scale up and down the hull and up the SS's out of .015" brass wire. The main SS the mast is brass and the side poles are brass also.I still have another year probably left before finished.I tried to catch all the mistakes that Trumpter made but the main one the forward lookout station I missed till to late it's the deck of the sister ship Gneisenau but I motored on.The ship when finished will be maybe 90% correct but the the thing that really made me post was the excitement about building the base and case. The case measures 50"=LX14"HX7 1/4"W and I will frame it out in Padauk as the base so a few pics I guess. That search light along with two other had like 15 or 18 pieces. Martinnfb, TankBuster, MikeMaben and 18 others 21

themongoose Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 Awesome. Can you talk to how you are building the case? I am thinking about trying that myself for a USS Kittyhawk I am building. Martinnfb, Javlin1, Christa and 1 other 4

I am thinking about trying that myself for a USS Kittyhawk I am building. I have a lip on top of the base on the flat above the roman with another 1/8" outside the lip.I used 1/8" plexi mine came with mask still attached a must for cutting otherwise you use tape.I did not rely on a ruler of any kind but a piece already cut from the base which was about 55'+ and laid it against the long ledge and scored for 1/16"/1/8" longer than the lip.The cut gave me the wiggle room on the length and rulered the ends. The glue that is used reminds me of Tamiya thin to a degree acts really fast and like Tamiya if you miss the mark do not wipe or touch ..evaporation takes place.I would suggest wooden squares if to much glue it travels to the metal will discolor happened one corner so if I start doing more will make wooded clamps just for this. It's actually better to use a syringe to apply the glue better control and you will see some use tape be careful not to over do the amount you apply leakage. This was my first case ever the wood framing is 1)add rigidity to the structure and firmness to the long sides at the base making taking off/on more certain no flexing.2) will cover up a couple of dings in the corners.I have a pretty full shop on the side outside the model room makes life easy straight/square cuts is all you need. the glue: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TCUJ7A8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Video: Edited July 25, 2024 by Javlin1 Martinnfb, LSP_Ray and chukw 2 1
themongoose Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 awesome tutorial, I had similar problems with this stuff! I'll set up the wood clamps from the start. I've got a feeling this will change my attempt from failure to success. LSP_K2 and Martinnfb 2

Javlin1 Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 While waiting for some drying to occur on the Tempest I have just about finished the wood on the glass case.I still have to glue the four upright to the case drop some wood glue in the joints, sand and clean up.I will then be on the prow for handles up top and for the ends. Javlin1 Posted June 26, 2025 Author Posted June 26, 2025 (edited) Well LSP Mike got started back on the Scharnhorst thinking maybe next year for a show.I thought a little video might do better than a bunch of pics.I must say everything ATTM is removable from the deck except of course the small furniture items.I have this week focused on the aft section and about to add the rear chain and the deck guns under Turret B while adding the anchor howze's along the edge of the hull.I am probably at the 50% mark on the build including rigging as part of the picture and German/Japanese ships have a lot of that. I guess a new camera is in order guys 5.1 just does not float anymore. Edited June 26, 2025 by Javlin1 Martinnfb and LSP_K2 2
Javlin1 Posted June 26, 2025 Author Posted June 26, 2025 A tad better video I am on the hunt for a better camera and accy. Martinnfb 1
LSP_K2 Posted June 26, 2025 Posted June 26, 2025 Looking good. The only 1:200 kit I have (at least for now) is the USS Hornet, but I have no idea when I'll be getting back to it. I am seriously considering grabbing a cheap router right now though as I have numerous projects that are going to require cases or covers of some type. Javlin1 and Martinnfb 1 1

Mine is a basic router from back in the day when Sears was still operational and it's a Craftsman which I bought a small table later.I have another a Makita now that is a nice little router but it's my freehand deal.I got more work than time need to start another floor model cabinet the sister to this ..... LSP_Mike Posted June 27, 2025 Posted June 27, 2025 Nice work Jav! I like the case full of 1/32. Like many others here, I suspect I was the "only one" working on 1/32. Finding LSP was like discovering a network of kindred souls, especially after the dark days of the '80s & '90s, when it seemed as though there would never be any new 1/32. I suspect there are some now "classic plastic" planes in that case. Scharnhorst is a lot of model. Your work looks very clean. Being as she'll sit on finials, do you intend to weather, or not? I too, have a few 1/200 ships, and uh.... "some" 1/350 ships. Scharnhorst is coming along well, how do you intend to display her? LSP_K2 and Martinnfb 2

Mike that's actually 1/48 in that case and the sister will house 1/48 and top shelf 1/350 ships. The 1/32 case is built into the wall going into the other side of the shop.I need to move 1/48 and smaller from there to the floor case to make room for more 1/32. 2 hours ago, LSP_Mike said: Scharnhorst is coming along well, how do you intend to display her? I am thinking a clean one this go round being it will be inside a case and all with no figures(no good KM out there).I will be heavy into the rigging on this one the more I can put in the better it gets.
