Serkan Sen Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 (edited) Hello all, Although I am the member of this forum since last year, this is my first WIP. Becasue most of the time I build the models in 1:72 and 1:48 scales. But this time I decided to do something different and post my progress here with you. I hope you will enjoy too. Since couple of years I am working on full 3D modeling of entire Oxcart/Blackbird family. This huge project has been mostly done and there a few things to be detailed for SR-71 series. In this project I am planning to model fully 3D printed YF-12A "The Thing" in 1:32 scale. I know this will be very challenging but if I successfully finish this build it will be a unique work!.. Before starting this build here I would like to present my YF-12A model in general and details: The forward chine area has been modeled with all four versions: I will start with the cockpit details and wheels. Printing the huge fuselage parts will be very challenging! Serkan Edited June 27, 2024 by Serkan Sen KiwiZac, TankBuster, F`s are my favs and 31 others 32 1 1
Dandiego Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Your cad skills are excellent. I look forward to seeing 3d parts. Dan Martinnfb and Serkan Sen 1 1
alaninaustria Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Am very curious to see this get built! Cheers Alan Martinnfb and Serkan Sen 1 1
Landrotten Highlander Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Wonderful work so far. I too will be following your progress with interest/ The technicians at the University of the West of Scotland have printed out an SR-71, but their quality is rather poor - just to show the capabilites of their equipment but rather unuseable for our purposes (massive print lines on all work). Curious to see how you will tackle this without having to resort to resing printing (if this is your intention anyway). Martinnfb and Serkan Sen 1 1
blackbetty Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 will follow closely! Serkan Sen and Martinnfb 1 1
Serkan Sen Posted June 28, 2024 Author Posted June 28, 2024 Thanks for your encouraging comments @Dandiego, @alaninaustria, @blackbetty. This project will be very teachy for me. I have significant experience 3d printing in 1:72 and 1:48 scales. But 1:32 scale is a totally different class!.. Many thanks @Landrotten Highlander. I can share some photos of printed and assembled parts of Oxcart and "The Thing" in 1:72 to give you an idea how the print quality is: And here are are some photos of 1:48 Oxcart parts: Serkan GMK, KiwiZac, Rocat and 23 others 25 1

Biggles87 Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 Wow, you’ve taken on quite a challenge there Serkan, but having seen some of your previous work on Britmodeller I’m sure you’ll be up to it. Looking forward to more. John Serkan Sen and Martinnfb 1 1

TankBuster Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 Looks great, what type of printer/printers are you using for the build. Cheers. Martinnfb and Serkan Sen 1 1
David Hansen Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I know the Italeri box top of the YF-12 kit called this plane "The Thing", but i can't recall any other references to the plane by that name. Perhaps i just haven't researched the subject, deeply enough... Serkan Sen and Martinnfb 1 1
