LSP_Kevin Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 Welcome to the VTOL Group Build! This runs from June 9th to November 30th 2024. The theme is any aircraft that can take off vertically. Helicopters included. The usual Group Build eligibility criteria applies here, being that the kit has to be 1/35 or larger, and not more than 25% complete at the time of entry. Enjoy! gatorbait51 Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 Strictly vertical or can V/Stol like the OV-10 or the Storch be considered?

dutik Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 (edited) So I count for this GB beside all helos (minus autogiros, no VTOL here) the Harrier, AV-8B, F-35B, Yak-38 and 141, FW Triebflügel, Bachems Natter and the Coleoptere. Not to forget a fistful of other VTOL prototypes like the Dornier Do-31, the Mig-23P VTOL (with delta wing!) or the Mirage III V-01. I guess that the Space Shuttle and Buran do not count because they were not designed for atmospherical operations (at least this was handled so at LSP in past times). Did I miss something? Alain Gadbois Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 You can ad the Ryan Vertijet, the Lockheed XFV-1, Convair XFY-1 and the Bell X-14. Only the Pogo has a vac kit I think. I considered the vertical take-off T-72 turret, but its eventual aim is outer space, so no. chrish 1
dutik Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Not to forget Piaseckis VZ-8 Airgeep . And if you are out for something more weird (much, much more weird ) look for Convairs model 49, aka The leaf blower of death. Regards - dutik Alain Gadbois 1
Dave Williams Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Unless you’re into scratchbuilding, or can find some esoteric vac or resin kit, your options for large scale VTOL aircraft kits are somewhat limited. There are a number of helicopter options, but for fixed wing, I see just Harrier - Revell, Trumpeter, and Airfix F-35B - Trumpeter FW Triebflugel - Miniart Bachem Natter - Fly
themongoose Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 I think this is gonna bring me back in the LSP fold. I’ve got Trumpy’s AV-8B from a fellow LSPer years ago. A few extras to pull together and it’s ready to go BradG, geedubelyer, dutik and 1 other 4

dutik Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 I am keen to add a Yak-38, but I am lacking the spare time to scratchbuild one. Maybe I'll drop in a Triebflügel. Maybe. Regards - dutik BradG, Loach Driver and Lee White 3

Lee White Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Here is mine, minus the canopy. You can use 1/48 F-15 wings and modified 1/32 Harrier stabs, and the fuselage is pretty straightforward. The only real PITA is the blow in doors. dutik and Alain Gadbois 2
dutik Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Very interesting! Is at here in gallery or in a Build/ or Ready-for-inspection thread? My approach is to "plasticise" a 1/33 paper kit, i. e. to use the paper parts as templates. There are even spar sets, vac canopies and resin wheels available. But I am still practice this with a much simpler paper kit to learn how-to. Regards - dutik
Lee White Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 (edited) Well, there was a build thread, but it pretty much got destroyed by the Photobucket debacle. I’ll try and scrounge up pics, maybe even dig it out of its tomb to take some more. I don’t want to hijack the thread, but want to encourage you to give it a shot. It’s a very do-able subject. Lee edit-here is the thread https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/21251-yak-38/ Edited June 17, 2024 by Lee White dutik 1
