Roy Cross Tribute Build: Airfix Heracles

Absolutely understand, and if it were mine I'd have binned it before you did. Well done on persisting, but there does come a point where it just isn't worth it.

If you go for the One Man Model kit, remember that he does a 1/48 version as well, if you happen to have a gigantic space. I have the 1/72 kit and it is a filament print with all of the difficulties of that material (lots of smoothing of the lines required). I have been playing with it for quite a while, and it could use some help with the detail parts, but looks nice in shape.

The Arctic decal sheet in 1/72 is just beyond spectacular, with super detail for the inside walls and upholstery for the seats. Unfortunately, it makes me want to create photo etched detail parts to match... I have some paper ideas so far, but still in progress. I only wish that I was better at 3D cad and printing to update the engines with the exhaust collectors in front, or maybe create that ladder to the front radio man's door. The detail parts are pretty crude.

As for the window difficulties, I bet you would be happy with a foil covering formed with cutouts for the windows, then add a thin sheet of clear plastic under that foil section.

As usual, I spend too much time planning, and then start too many interesting projects to actually finish anything.

Hope you enjoy doing a bigger Handley Page.

I'm not planning to get the OneManModel kit unless the other developing option falls through. The alternative looks to be fully resin printed, and looks much nicer overall - especially since I have no plans or desire to build it in 1/48.

Sorry to read that Kev, I do get it - one can only correct so many compound errors in the kit’s tolerancing and plain-old warped parts before you say ‘enough’. Entirely understandable.

You’ve had to wrestle the Fokker D.21 into submission (and what a job you have don on that!). I guess make the next build something that is known to fit together well? It will help restore your equilibrium.

Kind regards,
Paul

I suggest flushing all those negative vibes with a quick 1/35th Tamiya M-8 armored car build...

Oh yeah, it'll be a Tamiya kit for sure! In fact, I've already chosen it: their venerable P-51B/C in 1/48 scale.

If ever I need a "quick win" mojo pickup, this lovely gem or the D is my go-to: good choice, and good luck. :piliot:

"the other developing option" intrigues me... "Enquiring minds want to know" as they used to say for that crazy "news" paper. Is someone doing a much better HP 42 kit? (My Precious, need it).

Another Japanese modeller named Akiyoshi Kishino has been posting his progress on Facebook. Here's a few of his more recent images:

I'm just not certain that he plans to sell these things. It may just be a personal project. I sent him an enquiry about it, but he never responded. I have my fingers crossed, however!
