  1. Hello all, it is with a great pleasure and a bit of exitment that I am going to enter this group build. I have always liked the P-40, I think it looks agressive and mean but lately, I have litterally had some sort of P-40 fever after reading a few articles and so decided to build one. Amazingly, it has not been that easy to find an aircraft that tics all the boxes of the GB theme as I already had my mind pretty much set up on what I wanted to build... but finally, I managed to get everything come more or less together. I wanted to build an aircraft from the Burma Banshees as these big skulls on the nose of the P-40 have always captivated me. This said, the 80th Fighter Group did not produced that many aces and then, I had to find the specific decals for one of those aces. So, finally, I choose to go with Samuel Eugene Hammer who was the one and only P-40 "only" aces of the 80th FG; there was some other aces but they scored some of their victories on other types of aircraft (P-38 and/or P-47 if I am correct). I initially wanted to buy Hasegawa P-40N but was not able to find one so I bought Trumpeter model and found a set of decal on the other side of the planet. This is where I started to get wrong... in fact, Hammer's P-40N was an early N so it did have the "old style" canopy and rear framing, just like a P-40M but both Trumpeter and Hasegawa have the "new style" canopy and framing ... I'll have to leave with that I guess I also bought a few after market stuff which is quite unusual for me as I often claim I prefer to do things by myself but let's say it this way, I want to maximise my chances to finish this build for once We have Eduard Look instrument panel which looks very good to me, Eduard pre-cut mask and Eduard threaded wheels. Here is the kit: And the aftermarket stuffs: That's it for now, the kit has been waiting for me to start for almost 3 weeks now so it is time to get back to the bench! Thanks for following ! Cheers, Loic
  2. Got room for another Warhawk in this group build? This one is a training group P-40N with "Parrot head" art. No this has nothing to do with Jimmy Buffet...but I do like his music BTW. I will try to finish on time and to do that will have to try and avoid AMS disease... Dang it I'm a month late starting too.... Perhaps I will play some Jimmy Buffet while I build eh? "Cheeseburgers in paradise!....."
  3. Well, it's time to stop lurking and get to work on my stash. Life gets in the way but maybe posting my build here will help with my "mojo" and keep me motivated. As for true LSP, I have a ZM Mustang and a Tamiya Corsair to do. Also there's a T-6 Texan. However, those have a lot of parts and I need a simpler build to get my juices flowing again. I really should do "out of the box" but.... Nah! This Mauve kit is really nice. The True Details cockpit is sweet in it, I can tell.
  4. Looking for the color under cockpit glass to rear of seat for a late P-40N. Interior Green, Curtiss Green or OD? Thanks, D.B.
  5. Does anyone have any information on what these planes were painted? I've seen so many different interpretations, but looking at the pictures this is an over-paint or distemper and you can see dark paint under this colour on leading edges etc. But this paint appears to be lighter that the Khaki pants worn by the crew and there is a credible case to be made that there is no different under colour.
