  1. I started this as something I could assemble quickly and finish OOB. Didn't quite turn out quickly, but it was OOB, apart from window decals sourced from a wanted ad on another forum. Edit: oh yes, and I had to replace the fin-top probe - (Edit of edit: which I am reliably informed is an HF radio antenna) - with a Master pitot for a 1:48 MiG-21 (tip only) when the original snapped off. A quick couple of photos until I get around to some better shots (if you're thinking "Yeah, heard that one before", I know ...). Not my best effort, not least as I'm more at home with LSPs and 1:48 stuff , but here it is. Used to see these and the tankers overhead going into and out of RAF Mildenhall almost every day during my teenage years, but I've never modelled one until now. Comments welcome, thanks for looking.
  2. Fellow modellers here is Trumpeter's Mig29K built oob. You can find the build thread herehttp://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=64087 Finished well and truly last year but the photos just never happened. Photos taken and edited with my Samsung S7 with a 12 MP camera. Cheers and thanks for looking. Bevan.
  3. Hey fellow modellers, haven't posted anything in a loooong time but have been lurking nearly everyday so thought I'd get off my lazy backside and take some pics of my most recent work, Trumpeter's 1/32nd Mig 29k. This is the first jet of any kind I've built so after being nagged at the recent Model Expo here in Melbourne to "just build a jet" I went home and did just that! Actually I picked this kit up at the swap n sell at said Expo for $50 after thinking that if I don't like it or it doesn't build well I haven't wasted a whole lot of hard earned. The kit builds beautifully with no real vices that some basic skills wouldn't be able to fix easily, general fit of the kit is excellent. Although the wing fold area is a real bear of a join to contend with! Photos.. Cheers Bevan
  4. Hi guys, This one is a quickie. When I was visiting my modelling friend Henk, I noticed that old Revell Mustang box on top of his cabinet. This old Revell P-51B had already been started as part of a Dutch IPMS region display table of a few years ago, dedicated to the Mustang. It stalled after the fuselage was put together. Henk said: "You can have it, you can make something of it!" And so I did. I had never build it and was curious how it would look like OOB. And yes, all the rivets would be retained, also on the wing! Sometimes, I like to build an old kit, faults and all, to see what it looks like with current build methods. It is also relaxing, just slapping a kit together without correcting it. The fuselage needed its fair share of filler at the lower side. I used a cheap 2-pack epoxy filler for that, because it does not shrink. Lost rivets were re-instated with Micro Mark rivet decal. The only mods I did was extending the cockpit floor and closing the radiator exhaust area off to avoid see-through effects and interesting light effects into the radiator intake. The horrid seat was camouflaged with seatbelts from a very old Eduard set and a new gunsight was put on the glare shield. The fit of wings and tailplanes was fair. The fit of the windscreen was bad. I used Revell UV hardening glue to fix it and then filled the gaps with Micro Kristal Kleer. The canopy framing was hand painted. The decals of this American boxing were very good: thin and opaque, even the white stripes! They conformed very well over the rivets using DACO Red decal solvent. And here it is. As I said in the title: purists, look away! The verdict? It is clear why a new P-51B model is needed, The most obvious faults are the wheels, the nose, the rivets on the wing, the lack of guns and chute ejector ports, the lack of the oil cooler outlet flap and the lack of external fuel tanks. Ofcourse there is more... The empty pylons are in the kit, but I did not use them, they were not indicated in the instructions With current techniques and build experience, this kit builds into a nice model for on the shelf, just not a very accurate one. If you have one, just build it OOB as a nostalgia kit. Cheers, Peter
  5. Some in progress shots of of this Tempest I've been working on for a GB on Facebook. The theme is British aircraft in foreign markings, so I'm be doing a Royal Pakistan Air Force birdy. Except for a few styrene filler strips here and there I'm doing an OOB build. Wheel bay assembly is a mess and part H34 and H49 have shape issues. Despite what the instructions say I used the top part of the wing to align everything and that helped a great deal but there's a lot of sanding and scraping needed on the wings to get it all to fit. The "engine" is more of a placeholder but you won't see much of it anyway. I did drill out the plastic between the cylinders because that would be visible if I left it like that. Also needed to sand off the top of the exhausts to get it to fit inside the cowling.
  6. Everyobody else has some cool stuff here, so I thought I'd post my latest completed build. My first build where I combined an oil wash, streaking, color modulation, and pastels. Thanks for looking! Gaz
  7. Here is my work so far on this kit, that I've been wanting for 2 years! Bought it with Christmas money. I've been taking step by step pictures, and this is my first LSP build. pic soon - resizing them...
  8. Here's my entry for a wonderful GB on yet another forum which theme is; "The name of the subject needs to have an animal in it...". The options are endless, and I decided to dive into the stash and grab one of my antiques. And I have plenty of antiques to chose from... But only one that ticks all of my -and- all of the GBs boxes... Matchbox kit? Check. 1/32 scale, and thus a nice big canvas to work with? Check. Room for improvement with minimal scratchbuilding? Check. Fits into the GB? TRRRRRIPLE CHECK BABY!! Tiger >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger Moth >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moth Tiger Moth >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_tiger_moth It's three times the animal it needs to be! Yummy multicolour box content. Matchbox was doing MCP before it was cool. Eat that, Academy! Decal sheet... and they look like they might (being very cautious here...) still be usable... Trees... lovely crisp parts, no hint of flash on anything. One of the advantages of using an early boxing! I -had- one of the Revell reboxes in the stash, and that one had a lot more flash and sinkmarks. And even if it didn't have a decal option for the floatplane version, it did have a nice Dutch decal option... oh well... Classic Matchbox instructions. Gotta love them, sooo much nostalgia! But the Revell instructions I downloaded have a nice bonus; loads of rigging help! And trust me, I need all the help I can get when I'm rigging... I want to try to build this OOB as much as I can. Perhaps some harnesses and some tinkering with the engine, but nothing major. I will be working on this one whenever the Wendover Build grinds to a halt for whatever reason. Good way to keep sane... (I hope) More soooon! Rob
