  1. Hello everyone Here is my latest build Kit : Kinetic 1/32 F-18B/C/D (Academy rebox) Decals : Phoenix decals VFA-195 2007 AM : Black box F-18D ZactoModel AIM-9 Flightpath GBU-10 SieraHotel Seamless intakes Paint : AK interactive lacquers Mr color laquer (green) Black basing technique with MR Surfacee 1500 black Pro modelers washes This is my second 1/32 jet, the first one been the Revell Bae Hawk. Ive had this kit in the stach for a while now but I always intimidated by it, I normally build jets in 1/48 and i wanted to make sure i had the skillset to pull this one off! I really love the VFA-195 scheme and it was extremely hard to get my hands on the Phoenix decal! But i kinda know why now! I must say i was saved just in by a post on LSP where another member was having issues with Phoenix decals exploding once off the backing paper this warning allowed me to apply 2 coats of Micro mask decal film. This solved the shattering issue but this was only the beginning! Long story short NEVER buy or use these decals!! Ive built her as a F-18D simply because i prefer the profile of the hornet as a twin and the kinetic kit had everything i needed for that. The build went smoothly with a couple of small hiccups. one of the challenging things of this scheme is that the green and the black is gloss and the rest is flat finish. I think this is the most masking ive ever done on a build! witch takes us back to those decals!! after 2 gloss coats when removing the tape off the gloss ares the decals actually lifted from the model at multiple places!! Using water to wet the tape and a ton of patience i managed to get the masking off and touch up some of the damage! Something new that ive tried on this build is to use my splatter templates but instead of using diluted paint for the effect i spayed Pro modeler grime wash. This was super satisfying results and extremely easy to work with / redo when needed Overall I'm super happy with the result! Thank you for looking ! I totally forgot to take the cockpit during the photo shoot! All tucked in to her ne hangar next to the Hawk! This is officially the biggest plane my display case can take! good thing i love folded wings!
  2. Hi All, I've been a member of this site for a few years only posting comments occasionally. That said, I've never had the courage to post one of my builds. I get a lot of enjoyment from this forum so I thought that it's time to contribute. This is my Kinetic Hawk Mk.127 Lead In Fighter (LIF) of the Royal Australian Air Force. I spent several wonderful years working on this aircraft during my previous career working for BAE Systems. The kit was okay, although the plastic is very soft. Ironically you can't make a Mk.127 out of the box mainly due to deficiencies in the cockpit, so I managed to acquire the Kinetic (Eduard) colour printed PE set to correct this. I also added PE seat belts from a TMk.1 set, master probe, Reskit wheels and Brassin AIM-9L's Thanks for looking. All comments welcome... Cheers, Tom
  3. This has been a long time overdue, but I finally got to take some finished photos of the jet. Please excuse the guerrilla style of photography, I do not own a "professional" camera, nor have the time, space or resources to construct a proper photo booth. Anyway, please enjoy, and if you want more photos, don't hesitate to ask!
  4. Hello everyone Today i have for you my latest build in 1/48, the Kinetic SU-33. Im a huge fan of the SU-33 and ive been waiting 4 ever to get one in 1/32 but since that day is still unknow i decided to built the 1/48 version. As of writing this there is a brand new kit on the block the Mini Base one that from what ive seen is close to GWH amazing SU lineup. But today we are talking about the Kinetic kit Build Details Kit : Kinetic 1/48 SU-33 Paints : MRP SU-33 camo (199,200,201) and Russian cockpit Turquoise ( i know now that su-33 dont actually use this color but this is what i had) and ta whole lot of Alclad II for the burners AM : Eduard B-8M1 Rocket launcher , Master Pitot tube Marking: Kit decals (fictitious Bort number ) and J's Work paint mask ( DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT ITS F^%$*&^$ HORRIBLE ) The Kit First impressions while looking at the sprues is amazing, the level of details parts breakdown armement is all really good. and its BIG! probably a good thing i didn't get a 1/32 ! My previous build being a Hasegawa 1/48 tomcat i would says that this kit is better but faces some of the same issues. - Nose cone dosent fit great and needs some love - Intakes need some tweaks to fitting the rear (having just done the F-14 i had muscle memory! ) Appart from these point and the terrible instruction this kit is really good great details shape decals options ect especially at a retail price of 43$-59$ usd Final results after receiving the beautiful Eduard B-8M1 Rocket launcher i realized that i needed dual pilons, so i set off to build them myself now I'm really not a scratch builder so this is like the Monalisa at my skill level! Pilons Here is the rant part of this build. im not one to bash at something but this product is the worst POS ever. wasted tons of my time , got super bad result, the camo is not even accurate. This is the tail of the kit placed on the mask for it. i get the fact to have some wiggle room but this looks like it fits a 1/32 kit better It was like this for all the kit so for all the colors i had to guess where it actually goes but it also made color section bigger or smaller then the should be So after all the hard work of figuring this masking i finally removed then to discover this! None of the mask where actually clean cut, you could feel it when coming off the backing sheet but didn't think it would cause an issue. I was DEAD WRONG The fix, well since you only mask 2 colors out of the 3 i tool my #11 and recut the outlines for what is the light blue, the reapplied the masking's, i also did a bunch by placing some tape on the model, drawing on it based on what i saw under took it off cut it then replaced OMG this took for ever!! fix So Rant is over, lesson learned NEVER BUY J'S work mask, thank god MRP paint is thin! At the end of the day this was a super fun 3 months build. and it look amazing to me! Thanks for looking
  5. After posting my WIP on another forum for a while, and realizing that forum isn't really for me and my style, I decided to come here where big birds are welcomed and encouraged. As you can tell from the title, this is going to be a daunting task, but I feel that at this point I'm up to the challenge. Granted, I've started this way back in September, so there will be a bit of catch up to get up to the point I'm currently at with the build, but I hope y'all enjoy the ride, I certainly am! As you can see here, the box is a big 'un. And as per usual, work began at the front office, pics will follow in the next post
  6. This was just going to be a basic build until I looked at the pilots office space. I then bought the Aires resin set and now starting, I will cobble and bumble along as I go...not really being any kind of expert at 50's era jets. The box opened I started dealing with ejector pin craters had a "better" idea both brass and kit pipes have the same O.D. remember, I strive for mediocrity thanks for looking
  7. I thought I'd pull this out of the stash for the GB. I was thinking about an Argentine aircraft, but on further investigation they didn't carry the slatted F40 wing. I might do a Columbian aircraft or failing to find those decals, just standard Luftwaffe. Armament will consist of two sidewinders and it looks like two 1000lbers.
  8. For info: What look like some nice resin wheels for the Kinetic kit or VFS one if you have that. Three tyre types to choose from. DEF Model...click on the corresponding thumbnail Lucky Model has them in stock for about $15USD HTH. Cheers Matty
  9. Here is my current project, the F-86F-30 from Italeri. I live about 45 minutes away from where the aircraft on the box art is kept. I have been watching it fly and sit in the Valiant Air Command Museum for quite a few years. After the annual airshow this spring, I decided I needed to build a version of it. This won't be a completely accurate version of this F-86, but it will be representative of it. I haven't decided if I am going to make the markings as the plane is now, or when it actually flew with the Skyblazers. I picked the kit up a couple of months ago and have slowly been working on it. The only aftermarket that I am adding is a set of Harold's resin wheels and HGW seatbelts. I know the kit has some inaccuracies, but I am going to live with them and hopefully get a kit built! I didn't get any pictures until just recently, so some of my work is undocumented. I started by closing in the back of the gun ports and re-drilling them, trying to make them a little more accurate. I am not going to have the gun bays open and the gun ports will have the plugs in them. Next I worked on getting rid of the seam on the intake and exhaust. I also thinned down the back of the exhaust to make it look more scale. I don't want to use the intake and exhaust covers unless it really doesn't look right after I get them painted. For the cockpit, I used some sheet styrene and styrene rod to add some details. I didn't go crazy, just a few that I noticed in pictures. I did the same thing with the seat, just added a few details with sheet and rod. to be continued. . .
  10. I thought I needed something relatively easy, cheap, quick and dirty, so I canned all other options and ideas and decided to go with my latest acquirement I hauled away from the ESM, namely Kinetics Hawk 100: I haven't decided on any markings, yet, but it will be one from this sheet: (BTW, did you get my mail, Kev?) Haven't decided on a scheme, yet, but I'm leaning towards a bird in desert camo. Will be mostly out of box, with a few small home made enhancements, but nothing too fancy. I'll post some pictures, soon
