  1. OK, fellas, I'm way more than pleased to now (finally) show here, only the second LSP that I've finished since joining this site seven plus years ago (unbelievable). As some may already know, this model seemed to fight me every step of the way (mostly my fault though, or so I assume), but I was doggedly determined to see it through to the bitter end. I continued to have mistakes right up until the last few minutes; previously applied navigation light masking on wingtips would not budge, so I just painted over the Alclad with clear red and blue,… then stuck my finger in the still wet clear blue. I then threw the remnants of one sprue into the filthy trash,… that still had a part attached to it that I needed. The really great news here is that I can now finally move onto some other projects,… guilt free! Please feel free to share your thoughts, good or bad.
  2. OK, so as I threatened hinted at earlier today, I've got a Hasegawa 1:32 Ki-61 'Tony' and by gum I'm gonna build it. Cue the de rigeur shot of the box: And the reference material I picked up for the occasion: And what I hope will be the only aftermarket I purchase for this build: The seatbelts look impressive, but they've got me worried because you only get a lap belt and at least one Ki-61 build I've seen shows a shoulder harness as well, which doesn't come with this set. I'm still trying to ascertain if I have to add one, but if anyone knows please let me know. The Kagero book indicates that Brown flew a captured Tony in San Diego after the war, possibly the one captured by the Marines on Okinawa. If that was the case, it may well also have sported its distinctive red, white & blue paint job applied shortly after capture. I'd really rather do an example still in Japanese service, so this model won't be living up to the spirit of this group build 100% but I hope I can do something pretty neat anyway. The cockpit is still under assembly, but once I start showing some paint there will be photos. Darren
  3. Hi, All Kawasaki Ki-61 - I Hei Hien, s/n unknown, Chofu, February 1945, defense of Kanto region, including Tokyo. Machine flown by Taii Fumisuke Shono from 244th Sentai. The aircraft has modified radio installation and dismantled Venturi tube, however some device (connecting rod?) previously hidden inside remained. This machine was repainted several times between January and March 1945: green camouflage was removed in January (but some remnants of it remained on upper sides of ailerons, what I'm trying to show here), and in March she was camouflaged again with dark green mottling on upper surfaces and sides. White stripes on wings and fuselage identified airplanes assigned to the homeland defense air force. Very well known Hasegawa's kit, to which I added the resin cockpit from Aires, QB exhaust stacks, wheel well covers and machine guns from Master. Markings sprayed using the Masks from Kagero's book "Topcolors, Fighters over Japan part. 1" . Many thanks for all the comments in my workshop thread, very much appreciated. Hope you like the result Best regards Hubert
  4. Hi All, This will be my first topic in Works in Progress, so I really I count on your help and support At the workshop goes the Kawasaki Ki-61-I Hien from the Hasegawa stables. In the construction I will use the resin cockpit from Aires, resin exhausts from QB and some scratch-building. Camouflage scheme choice still to be made, but I'm opting to use one of the options provided in the masks MM32071 set from Montex. Stay tuned, best Hubert
  5. Ever the ambitious chap, I'll be trying to finish several models over the coming 12 months or so, including this one, for the region 5 event being hosted next year by my home chapter. Obligatory box art.
