  1. Yesterday was my first, but definitely not last, visit to wonderful Shuttleworth Collection of aircraft at Old Warden airfield in Cambridgeshire. I was accompanied by two friends, both volunteer helpers there so their knowledge enhanced the specialness of the day: From the left, Mike Chilestone of this forum, John Shipman, whose father Ted was a Battle of Britain pilot and latterly my father’s Chief Flying Instructor in S Rhodesia….and yours truly! For me, the real highlight was this stunning beauty: A Hawker Demon. She was taken out of the hangar ready to be prepared for a flight at the funeral of her owner. I took the opportunity to take many detailed shots which will be in the “Walkaround” section before too long. Other notables: Spitfire V; shortly after I took this pic the three of us were helping move her back into her hangar….that alone was a thrill! Had to take this of course: So pretty! And…. a Sea Hurricane and….. something shiny for our American friends: I haven’t even included the many WW1 types that I photographed, may do a separate thread later. Hope you enjoy those above.
  2. We take a look at ICM's recent rendition of the wonderful de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth - released last year. We wish the ICM team, along with family and friends, all the best given the current awful situation in their country - we very much hope they all stay safe and well. A couple of relevant accessory reviews to follow shortly... Blue skies! Iain
  3. We take a look at another useful accessory for the ICM Tiger Moth - a detail set from Eduard in their new 'SPACE' range that provides etched details - along with a 3D printed decal sheet for the instrument panels, compasses and placards. Mags on! Iain
  4. Having just looked at the ICM Tiger Moth kit, a review of a useful accessory that, in my opinion, will add to the overall look of the completed model: a resin DH.82A Tiger Moth Wing Tank Correction Set from CMK. Clear Prop! Iain
  5. Hi all! Here is my entry for this group build! I bought this kit when I was around 20 years old, and had decided to improve it quite a bit at the time. Looking at the parts today, I had too much ambition for my abilities, trying to thin the engine cowls and wing trailing edges. I didn't have the tools or experience and had mixed results when using the materials I had on hand. I finally gave up after thinning all the trailing edges except the ailerons... Now with much more reference material, on line references and other builds here on LSP, I'd like to continue where I left off, and hopefully finish it! Alain
  6. Next project in the pipeline is this old 'kite' De Havilland DH 82 'Tiger Moth' This time I'm going to build one of the danish training planes, from the end of the thirties... Hopefully, a little relaxing build to get back to basics again...
  7. Max Williams takes a look at the new resin Tiger Moth kit from Silver Wings. Many thanks Max! Iain
  8. Here's my entry for a wonderful GB on yet another forum which theme is; "The name of the subject needs to have an animal in it...". The options are endless, and I decided to dive into the stash and grab one of my antiques. And I have plenty of antiques to chose from... But only one that ticks all of my -and- all of the GBs boxes... Matchbox kit? Check. 1/32 scale, and thus a nice big canvas to work with? Check. Room for improvement with minimal scratchbuilding? Check. Fits into the GB? TRRRRRIPLE CHECK BABY!! Tiger >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger Moth >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moth Tiger Moth >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_tiger_moth It's three times the animal it needs to be! Yummy multicolour box content. Matchbox was doing MCP before it was cool. Eat that, Academy! Decal sheet... and they look like they might (being very cautious here...) still be usable... Trees... lovely crisp parts, no hint of flash on anything. One of the advantages of using an early boxing! I -had- one of the Revell reboxes in the stash, and that one had a lot more flash and sinkmarks. And even if it didn't have a decal option for the floatplane version, it did have a nice Dutch decal option... oh well... Classic Matchbox instructions. Gotta love them, sooo much nostalgia! But the Revell instructions I downloaded have a nice bonus; loads of rigging help! And trust me, I need all the help I can get when I'm rigging... I want to try to build this OOB as much as I can. Perhaps some harnesses and some tinkering with the engine, but nothing major. I will be working on this one whenever the Wendover Build grinds to a halt for whatever reason. Good way to keep sane... (I hope) More soooon! Rob
