  1. I've been working on a bunch of different kits over the last while. The HK B-25s burned me out badly so those got pitched and I started with some other stuff from the stash. I've always loved Macross since I first saw it playing in a comic book shop back in the '80s. Thankfully there's been kits released recently to replace some of the older ones. First up is a Wave Destroid Tomahawk. This the Wave 1/72 kit OOB. A nice fun build. I actually lost track of the kit but in cleaning up recently found it and decided to finish it. Next up is a VF-19A Excalibur. This is from the Hasegawa 1/48 kit. The markings are based on a profile I found in a reference book I have on the VF-19. They reference the classic markings of the VF-1S from the original series. I've been building a bunch of armour kits lately. Here's the recent Takom Jagdtiger. A great kit. Everything just went together perfectly. Next up was the slightly older Dragon Panther G.
  2. Hello, this is my last model, an F-4J(UK) Phantom (E / ZE353) with the 74 (F)Squadron, also known as "Tiger Squadron", based at RAF Wattisham in the late 80s. The model is based on the Tamiya kit with the addition of the Black Box resin cockpit, GMT resin J-79 exhausts and engine auxiliary air intake, resin wheels and a resin SUU-23A gun pod. I made the reinforcement strip running under the fuselage along the wing using plasitcard. Other minor details come from the Eduard PE sheet. I've also added some hydraulic hoses and plates to the undercarriage wheel bays. The pitot and AOA tubes are made of metal by Master. A couple of red coloured resin FOD were added to the main jet intakes. The unique camouflage is done using Tamiya and Gunze colors: for the greenish bluish gray I made my own mixture. Decals are from Yellowhammer, but I've used small roundels from a Xtradecals sheet... the Yellowhammer's are too big. CIAO! Piero
  3. hello all ! i have to confess , i am not a big fan of U.S. planes in general , from the mustang to the F-35 . the F-5 however is one of the few exceptions , especially in the various aggressor schemes ! with the release of the KH's kit and nothing on the bench i had to do something and quick ! so here is the start of the build : i went quite fast and smooth the only issues were a bit of flash and some ejector pins that needed sanding/cutting . All thats left to do is a few wires/cables /tubing behind the seat and around the rear of the pit . should be good enough for me .
  4. It is so easy to buy Meng`s little kits. They are cheap and cute. What's not to like? I have ordered the king tiger too. The quality of the tiger 1 suggest that that one will also be a hit. The tiger is small, with minimum number of parts, so I figured it is perfect opportunity to test colors and techniques (or actually learn to paint for real...) After assembly I grabbed the only available gray color at hand, a Vallejo panzer gray Primer(sic). This will show through the chipping as steel. It may too dark but I don't care much. I wouldn't delay the build. Next I sort of dry brushed chipping fluid were it looked suitable. The idea is to get more control over the process from the beginning. (I put nothing on the wheels) Actually the method i originally intended to test was to airbrush the fluid on select areas Over this I sprayed Tamiya dark yellow, followed by a second coat with a DY+WHITE+BUFF mix I read about somewhere on the web. After this I turned to the tracks. I had no flat black so Vallejo's Primer, which is quite dark, was fed to the AB once more. At this point I took a break to go home, read some more on Weathering and rummage around for colors simulating dust and rust. It is ironic but it will be the first tank i ever finish. PS. the kit code is MNGWWT-001 if you want to go buy it.
