  1. Hello. I present my completed Airfix 1/24 FW190 F-2 for inspection. I started this kit back in October 2022 with great ambitions to super detail the engine and other areas. However a number of disasters (of my own making) occurred along the way which, together with an awareness of my limited skills, resulted in a change of plan and all panels being firmly glued in. I wouldn't be surprised if Airfix release this in the classic range during 2025 but there are a number of shortcomings with the kit (in my opinion) that are worthy of mention and which I have attempted to correct in this build: The tailwheel needs to be lowered to be more representative of the real thing. The riveting is massively overdone. There is a lack of detail (for a kit of this scale) to the cockpit, engine and undercarriage bay. A wing dihedral needs to be added. The forward rake of the undercarriage needs to be corrected. For aftermarket parts it was Airscale to the rescue - Cockpit Instruments, Seatbelts and Wheels. Other than that there isn't very much choice. I had to use the very old kit decals because I couldn't really find any suitable masks or decal sets to replace them. Apologies for the picture quality. I'm really not a photographer and don't have the equipment for it. Maybe at some point I will try to take better quality images. Thanks for looking.
  2. Hello everyone, After a long break from the hobby, I'm back with another 1/32 Fw , this time is revell's FW190 F-8 The painting scheme will be the following , founrd on Kommandeur decal sheet KD4805, I dont actually own this decal sheet but i am going to use it as reference in order to prepare painting masks for the camo and markings I also have many aftermarket sets including the bessin sets from eduard. unfortunately i couldn't find either either landing gear replacements or Henri Daehne propeller.. She will also be displayed with an open engine.. so, here is the kit and the two brassin sets
  3. Hi all! It's been a very long time since I last posted in the forum but have been working on a project following my botched attempt on Trumpeter's MiG-21UM. And I was finally able to complete it this week! I would like to present to you my build of Revell's 1/32nd kit of the Fw 190 F8. This is probably the most challenging project I've done to date due to the number of aftermarket resin sets I added as well as the research I did on the particular aircraft. It was also my first attempt at fully riveting a model. The aftermarket sets I used include Eduard's resin cockpit, engine, fuselage gun bay and propeller, ResKit wheel, HGW fabric seatbelts and a combination of Cutting Edge and EagleCal decals. The Cutting Edge decal set was the one that inspired me to start this project as I found the overpainted fuselage number feature quite attractive. However, the painting instructions were simply wrong. Eventually, I discovered that Montex Masks offer the same scheme with the correct paint guide which I cross-referenced with pictures of the real aircraft I found online. Painting was done almost exclusively with MRP paints and weathering with Abteilung 502 oils and MiG Ammo and AK Interactive pigments. This makes build #2 and most likely the last one for 2021! Hope you like it!
  4. Admin/Moderators, please move to correct area if this isn't appropriate place. I’m really wondering if I need to clear out some of my stash of older kits. I know most the old Revell 1/32 kits date from the 60s and have been reissued several times AND by and large been eclipsed by far better kits. The only one I’m not sure about is the Revell Hurricane Mk I. IIRC, the molds were modified to produce the cannon equipped version Mk II. Is that right? I have fond memories of building the Corsair, P-40, P-47, Typhoon, Spitfire Mk I, Wildcat, Stuka and Zero and maybe others…and may even build the P-40 as a lark as I remember it being a decent looking model…despite being an E in AVG markings. What about the SBDs? Former Matchbox IIRC. Neither opened, but expect them to be of the same era and lacking as badly as the P-47 and P-51B. Same with the P-38J kit. Having the Trumpeter, I doubt I’ll build one and don’t need two. On the old Hasegawa and Hasegawa/Minicraft kits, they are largely of the early seventies. Are the old M-109E and Fw190s decent kits? I’m not much of a German a/c builder, though thinking these might be good projects to learn on. While improvements over the Revell kits, are they reasonable accurate or do they have major shape/fit issues? I think the 109G14 is a much later and better kit. Is that true? I found a 2002 date on it versus 60/70s on the others. How does the Zero compare to the Revell? What about the Oscar? These were is sealed clear poly bags I didn’t want to open so hard to compare. I certainly have a surplus of Hasegawa P-51Ds and will be shedding some of them. im working my way through Scalemates looking at various boxing’s and original tool dates. At the moment, nothing is for sale or trade, but some soon will be once I get educated a bit more. I acquired many of these from a good friend who was a retired USAF F-106/F-15 pilot and retired FedEx Captain. He died in a small plane crash a couple of years ago and his wife gave me all his kits which accounts for me having multiples. Nothing is up for sale or trade at the moment. I will list it here first when I decide what I'm doing with which kit and gauge if there is any market for these or if postage will be more than they are worth. I am hanging on to my new Hasegawa P-47s (3). I would appreciate your feedback. H-278 and 04781 H-296 and 04722 Both 04711 4749 and H-280 H-283 and H-279 H-295 and H282 (two) H-217 JS-060 and JS-073 JS-070 and JS-060 JS-086 x2 and (not shown 1086 x3) Both JS-060:400 JS-073 and ST18:4200
  5. Excellent , not done a group build ever , but this gives me a great excuse to have a crack at this over the Xmas break having sat on the shelf for three months . I assume it fits within the rules ?
  6. With my entry in the Multi engine group build being full of etch addition, I just knew that I would need a distraction without all the trouble, so I went to the stash to pull out a trouble free build. This one caught my eye Ok opening the box I found it wasn't completely OOB, but somehow I like to do PE flaps. The weels should be no problem I will be doing it in the colours of Walter Nowotny - second from the bottom. Classic - I always liked that scheme
  7. Gday everyone, longtime lurker first time (in-progress) poster. I'm using an old photo bucket account for my pictures but am considering different options in the future depending on how the pics look on here. Input and comments welcome. Anyway, the build. Revell's 190s. Fantastic bang for the buck, y'all know what to expect. This one is an OOTB to break in a new airbrush, new paints and some new surface detailing techniques. Some more successfully than others. Construction is fine, plenty of mold lines to clean off, but overall very nice fit. Construction progressed smoothly. And onto the main event. Black primer over everything. Plenty of flaws, but this one has no ambitions of being a contest winner. I've drawn on rivet lines and carved out a stressed skin look, to break up the shiny smooth surfaces. Alclad airframe aluminium down over areas to be chipped later Next up, some fancy MRP paints! Thanks for reading. D
  8. Hi all, I recently finished another rush build for Tamiya Model Magazine International. This time it was the new tool Fw 190A-8/R11 in 1/32. I built the F-8 2 or 3 years ago and loved it. This has the same fun factor. I also fitted it with numerous Eduard PE and resin sets. Paint is MRP. Look out for this one in the December issue of TMMI, out on November 16th.
  9. Just a couple of odds and ends to do but the main build is done. tail light, wing lights, pitot tube and aerial and she's done. Again be at Telford
  10. Hi all, Taking a break from my Me410 build which is a pretty tedious and long build, I felt I needed to build something quick and easy to keep the spirit high. I choose the PCM Fw190 as my subject. Turned out it was not a quick and easy build. Should have read the forums before starting... Anyway, the model turned out ok-ish. Again made some stupid errors. I forgot a few parts in the landing gear bay. This wan't fixible and in the end I opted to build the model in flight. This led to anther 'problem', a pilot. As the fuselage was already buttoned up it was no easy task to add a pilot. In the end I felt like a surgeon, but the poor guy made it and is happy flying ;-). As the build wen't along I tried some new techniques and paint. Rescribing panel lines (thanks for all the tips), Maketar paint masks for the insignia and the absolutely fantastic Mr.paint series. This techniques will proof invaluable for my Me410 build. Better make the mistakes on this build then on a €200 + kit! I will build another A3 from Zoukei Mura when it will be available in the future. I think it's such an awesome looking figther, build just for that purpose! Without further due, here are the pictures, hope you enjoy. Cheers, Wouter
