  2. This was a quick build of an old Hasegawa 1970s-vintage (I think) Bf 109E. I set out to do a straight OOB build, but couldn't resist using MDC instrument decals and an HGW seat harness to dress up what was going to be an open cockpit. As the kit decals weren't very usable, I raided my spares and generics, and ended up with this. Originally built by Erla Mascinenwerke as W/Nr. 4101 in September 1940, it became briefly Yellow 8 of 6./JG52, then Black 12 of 2./JG51. It was shot down and force-landed at Manston 27/11/1940. The aircraft is now back in its original "Black 12" guise in the RAF Museum. I omitted all armament, as the pictures I saw clearly show no wing guns, the holes being patched over. The cockpit canopy was removed at Rolls-Royce when the aircraft was flown by test pilot Mr Harvey Heyworth, who was over six feet tall; the canopy subsequently mislaid. Some more info here http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=18922.0 and full story here: https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/documents/collections/78-AF-624-Bf109E-4101.pdf And on with the pics. Not my best model, but a great mojo-restorer. Thanks for looking.
  3. Hi everyone, I am pleased to announce that I have been able to re-launch my Mistel 1 set with the additional item of the bulged 109 canopy in clear resin. The set is now £55.00 and includes as before the warhead, two styles of detonator trunk, white metal cradle, decals for Red 6 and White 1 as well as PE frame best wishes John
  4. Hi everyone, If you love Mistel's and you bought from me at some point in last few years the Mistel 1 set you will have noted that sadly I never managed to do the Bf 109 special bulged canopy. Well thanks to 3D printing I now have one that I am busy polishing up ready for clear resin casting - will also be doing in 1/72 but that is another story haha. I will also be re-launching the Mistel 1 set with the air scoops and larger radiator housing as these 109 F's seem to be hybrids. I knew about the radio hatch being moved forward but had never studied the lower nose before. Obviously if you already have the Mistel 1 set and you just want to buy the extra parts that is no problem. Will post when all is ready, thanks John
  5. My part of this group build will be a Revell Erla Bf 109. I ordered the last necessary part today (but may add Eduard landing gear later) and will start cut and glue very soon. To keep suspense I will give more details a bit into the build but thought I should at least turn up at the starting line!
  6. Here are some photos I took at the Chino Planes of Fame of a Bf 109 E-7, W. Nr. 3523. The aircraft was built in 1939 as an E-1 and was later upgraded to an E-7. It ended up on the Eastern front and soldiered on until April 1942, when it was shot down by a Soviet Hurricane. More to follow...
  7. I stumbled on this photograph of a Jumo engined Bf 109 equipped with wing mounted cannon. Unfortunately it is posed in a manner that obscures any fuselage markings. Possibly one of the few C-3s? In any case a very rare specimen.
  8. Anders Hjortsberg have a new profile up. Looking around for more photos i found this gem Gem, as in 'intriguing' that is. It is not often you get a look at both the top of the Wings, and underside of the tailplanes. The question here is about colors. I think aelirons and elevators are RLM 76. Probably wingtips too. This is the proscribed color for wooden and fabric covered surfaces. I figured the aelirons were delivered in rlm 76, and got the topside painted at the assembly when it was clear what the scheme was. The stabilisator is dark. Very strange. Should have been either metal finish, or rlm 76. The fin and rudder appear to be the same color, which seem NOT to be that of the fuselage. Yellow? I can't recall any late bf 109 were the fin, too, was yellow. I think it could be Rlm 76. Next there seems to be a lighter color under fuselage. On photos this area is usually very shaded making it difficult to interpret. A close look around the balkencreuz suggest the fuselage was not mono color. Thoughts!
  9. Hi Guys, Wanted to post our newest EagleCals for the Bf 109 Erla G10, two new sheets here in late April. http://www.eagle-editions.com/eaglecals/32/erlas-bf-109-g-10s.html Visit our site for details! Cheers, Judy and Team Eagle
  10. Hi gents my last contribution for 2013…….. AX-? is probably the most famous Bf 109 captured by the SAAF. She was captured by 1 Sqn (hence, the AX codes), test flown quite extensively until pranged…. Her sister is stored at the War Museum in JHB. A bit rushed to get in finished before year's end…. no quite happy with some parts… oh' well. I lost one of the exhausts - in the F-4 Hasegawa has each individual exhaust as a single item… anyhow, it went walk about after bouncing off the table… so I had to use a spare set of Ki 61 exhausts…...
