I also was quite surprised by the absence of smoke behind the exhausts (I love to highlight them) but, from the photos of the real aircraft it seems to be like this:

For some fun insider history on these aircraft and how they came to be, try and find a copy of a book called, "The Saga of Pappy Gunn, by General George C Kenney, and his book called General Kenney's Report linked from my site.

Both are great reads, and there was a lot of trail and error that went into the all gun nose B-25s, and they had to send Gunn to North American to convince him the modifications that were flying in combat could actually be done.

    Tarnation ?

I use vallejo paint for everything. So regular 70/71/65 camo, gloss coat x 2, a little bit of hairspray on the inner wing and engine cowl where I expected the wear to be worst. Then white overall, thin coat, not too even. Then chip the hairbrush area  with a damp (not wet) stiff brush - carefully !! Finally i mixed 25% IPA with 75% vallejo thinner and used a rag and the stiff brush to wear the paint down with strokes in the airflow direction. Finally a oil dot wash/streaking

    Another one done.

Hasegawa's lovely Ju87G Stuka with Aires cockpit and HGW belts. Finished as 60 tank ace Josef Blümel... that is... I did not in ANY way want to do the Nazi Rudel so I went looking for something else. Not a lot of variation and not a lot of documentation. I found a color profile with a winter washed S7+BU but no pictures... so a but unusual for me I decided to go with the color profile alone - looked too cool...

Well my Ki-45 is finally finished. It was a really nice build, with the only real trouble caused by my own hand, by not masking the rear section between the rear gunners hatch and far rear glass. Other than that, the kit has a LOT of parts in it, near enough to make a whole other model if certain other parts were acquired.
The most amazing thing about the kit was the fit. Overall, it was really excellent, but especially so for such a complex large model. The results really came together at the end, despite my best efforts to the contrary.

Well title says it all. 6-10 is depicted at a later time (due to the pictues I have) as can be seen on the tail.

Eduard kit plus Alleycat conversion, I really cannot say enough good about these Alleycat conversions - wow, they are good. Actually easier to replace the entire nose with a huge (and real nice) piece of resin that actually building the Eduard kits nose... HGW belts and Aires (or was it quickboost?) wheels were the only addition. All marking painted on. Scanned the decal sheet and made masks.

SinuheH reacted to ChuckD in "Avengers of Guadalcanal" - A vignette of a TBF-1 and her crew as they prepare for a mission
Hello, everyone.  This is my completed vignette that I’m calling, “The Avengers of Guadalcanal.”  During the long, grueling campaign for the Solomon Islands, Allied and Japanese forces threw themselves at each other for months.  Pitched night naval battles, furious aerial melees, and bitter ground combat were the brutal hallmarks of what I feel was truly the turning point in the Pacific War.

By November 1942, American forces were desperately holding on to Henderson Field on Guadalcanal in an effort to keep the Cactus Air Force flying.  One of the many units fed into the grinder was Marine Scout Bombing Squadron 131 (VMSB-131) whose men, along with countless others, flew and fought to the point of exhaustion.  In their new TBF-1 Avenger torpedo bombers, they attacked Japanese supply vessels and warships (the vaunted “Tokyo Express”) and helped turn the tide of the Guadalcanal campaign in the Allies’ favor.
This vignette is a small tribute to all those who fought and paid the price for freedom in those dark days of 1942.  It is my first real attempt at a diorama in any scale or subject and I learned a lot valuable lessons for the next time.  I also worked to push the limits of my skills, adding a few things that I’d never done before.

    The Materials
This is Trumpeter’s TBF-1C kit (02233) that I backdated to represent a very early TBF-1.  While the changes are subtle, they are numerous.  To accomplish this, I had to
    ·        Cut the trough in the cowl and cowl flap to accommodate the forward-firing .30cal machine gun
    ·        Fill the holes for the .50s in the leading edges of both wings
    ·        Fill the access panels in the wings for the .50s
    ·        Fill the ammo panels in the wings for the .50s.
    ·        Scratch build a radio antenna mast that was raked aft at an angle
    ·        Remove the pads for the rocket rails on the underwings
    ·        Fill the holes for the rocket rails on the underwings
    ·        Scratchbuild many (now invisible) interior parts that were only found on TBF-1s

I used the Eduard interior detail kit and a set of resin wheels that came with the kit when I bought it from a fellow LSP forum member years ago.  Sadly, as this kit had been passed around a few times, many of the parts had been broken in shipping, so I had to spend some time repairing them or scratch building replacements.
The base is polystyrene board framed with stained pine strips.  The text plate is from PlaqueMakers.com.

    The Figures
The figures are from several sources.
    ·        The two standing figures are from Black Dog Resin.  They’re a little large and come out to about 6’5” in 1/32 scale.
    ·        The kneeling crewman inspecting the tail gear assembly is a 3D printed figure from Reedoak (highly recommended).
    ·        The ground crewman in the cockpit is the Aires tow truck driver.  He had some fairly major surgery to fit the Avenger’s cockpit.  His clipboard and checklist are scratch built of plastic stock and spare PE.

    The Finish
Paints are a mix of MRP, Tamiya, and Vallejo with most weathering done by oils, Mig washes, and pastels.  Chipping was kept to a bare minimum, because I figure in November 1942, there was no such thing as an "old" TBF-1 Avenger.  Dirt, grime, and wear were applied... erm... liberally.

    The Surprise
    Just wait and see.

    The Build
A few months ago, I came across this picture and fell in love:

The oil staining on the cowl, goofy “6” digit on the under cowl, muck on the belly and landing gear, stained prop, 2-tone prop tips, and bald tires all cried out to be built.  Unfortunately, no one makes a 1/32 TBF-1, so I sucked it up and decided to take on the task of scratch-back dating it.

In my many references that I acquired for this build, I came across this picture as well, where the flight crews prepared for the mission while ground crewman warmed the engine.

… and thus the idea of the vignette was born.

    And finally…
    On to the show:

    And now the surprise:

    "CLEAR PROP!"

The kit is hand-wired with 9 lights and an electric motor to spin the propeller.    Each wing has a pair of position lights in addition to another in the rudder.  There's a formation light on the top of the spine aft of the turret, and three interior cockpit lights.  The motor is a brushless drone motor and all are wired in parallel through the side-mounted switch to a 4.5v battery pack glued to the bottom of the foam board.  Having never done electronics before, this was a big challenge for me.  If I do it again, I'll find a different motor as this one builds up too much heat and therefore limits the run time.  Live and learn.

It's nearly impossible to see now, but the interior is extensively detailed throughout.  Scratchbuilding plus the Eduard detail kit went a long way to make the interior look like a TBF-1.

The oil staining here was done with Abteilung 502 "Engine Grease" oil paints and Migs "Fuel stains" weathering "wash."  I am convinced it is actually used motor oil.  I've been around enough airplane and car engine in my life to know the smell.

The trough for the forward-firing .30 cal found on TBF-1s was the most challenging part of the backdate process.  I took some spare photoetch sheet and bent it into a U shape.  After cutting out the panel and studying reference pictures, I shaped and test fit the piece about a thousand times until it looked about right.

The turret was extensively detailed through reference photos.  Electrical cabling, placards, seatbelts, and other scratch pieces were added to enhance the increased detail from the Eduard kit.

Insignia and numerical stencils were done on my Silhouette Cameo cutter.  Smaller stencils are kit decals.

Dear LSP team. I am happy to present the latest finished model. Its the 1/32 Hawk Mk.1 of the Finnish Air Force.
    Kit: Revell
    Scale:1/32
Aftermarket: CMK Instrument panels, Quickboost Seats, Avalon Decals
    Paints: Ammo, Vallejo, Future
Weathering: Flory Models Washes, Ammo Oilbrushers
    Base made by my friend.

The kit has its issues however does fall together fairly well. Its Revell and its simplified in some areas but I believe the kit does capture the shapes of the real aircraft well. For those who wish to go to town on superdetailing this kit provides a good base. I used only instrument panels with coamings from CMK Quick and Easy line, and Quickboost seats. I have received the kit from my wife for Christmas couple years back so I wanted to build it. She loves colorful schemes that break up the grays in the display shelf (herself building a 1/48 Hellcat Drone) When a friend showed me the Avalon Decals sheet for Hawks from Finland I was sold. This one is ex-Swiss aircraft. All in all enjoyable mojo building experience and one kit finished. I saw a quote the other day on on forum that said the following: “The best thing on finishing a model, is the fact that without hesitation you can dive into your stash and start another one”. Happy modeling everyone.
    Cheers, Jarda Hajecek

When you compared to a P-51D, this was i really small airplane as you can see in the last picture. i call it the ancestor or the grandpa of the A-10 by the position of the pulse jet engines and the twin rudder

What a nice modelling experience these Hasegawa kits are, the N1K2 is the last of my trio of Japanese subjects and as well as being enjoyable to build I have learned a lot about Japanese WW2 aircraft and learned (or re learned) some modelling techniques.
Paints used were mainly Sovereign Colourcoats, the undersides was Xtracolor High Speed Silver and Humbrol was used for the small details.
All markings were painted using Montex masks apart from the stencils data plate and kill markings (I'm not that clever !)
Seat belts are the amazing but fiddley RB Productions IJN ones.
And so here we are, for some reason the aerial wire looks more prominent in the photos than it really is, and yes I messed up the "no step" area on the wing, there are probably more mistakes as well.
A big thank you to all the authors of the other N1K2 builds who have taken the time to publish them on the site, I have shamelessly copied from them.

    Hi guys,

The Lancaster is finished - sort of  - more on that later. So, in the quest to reduce the large pile of kit boxes in my stash, I decided to open the largest of the boxes and out popped a Lancaster! Built mostly from the box except for the Eduard Zoom instrument panel and some LED lights from Amazon. I figured that though I wasn't going to do any super-detailing in the interior, a little mood lighting would help show off what is there. The kit mostly fell together, good engineering from HKM except for a weird fit issue sliding the inner nacelles into the wing. In retrospect I did deviate from the instructions slightly during wing construction so that was probably the cause. Dang that old operator error thing!

Painting this massive beast was a chore and challenge (see me recent thread on MRP clear coats). I ran out of British Interior Green in my fave MM so I mixed up a substitute from a test order from True North. I will not be ordering any more paint from them - nuff said. Exterior colors are MRP, first time using them and I like the base colors. I did have an issue with the clear coating where it has been theorized I had an episode of blushing due to high temps/humidity when I sprayed the final flat coat. Managed to fix that (mostly) and except for a few areas it actually enhanced the weathering effects (to my eyes anyway). I do have a few spots to touch up but I'm putting this in the done column until I can muster the courage to do the fixes.

    Here she is:

The sheer size of this thing makes photographing difficult!

You can see a little of the blushing below the cockpit that I wasn't quite able to rescue.
