  1. Only one word needed, gorgeous. I take my hat off to you guy's who build the WW1 stuff as I would love to do some of these kits but I don't think I have the patients to do the rigging.
  2. Can't help out with the decals, I've tried myself to get hold of some, as I wanted to do a Bentwaters/Woodbridge A-10. I used to watch them at Donna Nook and down the road at Wainfleet. Was at Wainfleet when 2 A-10's came in to do a strafing run on the targets. The targets were white sheets approx 10ft wide x 20ft high on a pole frame and at an angle of approx 20 degrees. One A-10 fired off a quick burst at one target and when the air had cleared, there was nothing left of the sheet apart from small bits hanging from the frame work.
  3. Lovely looking Frightning. Yes I've put Frightning as that was one nick name she was known as. My favourite story of the Lightning was when a newly trained pilot made his first solo flight on type. After landing, he was asked how it went. He replied that he was with the aircraft all the way till he let the brakes off.
  4. Never mind the upkeep mine, that hand looks amazingly life like.
  5. Nice, look forward to seeing the finished thing.
  6. Scale Aircraft Conversions have them covered
  7. Seeing as the B-17 has been released and now waiting for the Lanc I would like to see the WWII bomber line continued. How good would a Halifax, Stirling or Wellington look at the side of the Lanc. Of course then you could say what about a B-24, B-25 at the side of the big Fortress. These would be a better draw than the Ju52. But saying that, a 52 would make a change.
  8. Only one word needed, superb. That would win any prize of the top shelf.
  9. Check which time scale you are planning on doing as 66sq had both slatted and unslatted wings at the same time in 1954. So this may apply to all RAF squadrons
  10. The RAF actually had 11 squadrons of Sabres, most based in Germany as part of NATO
  11. I had seen the Kinetic kit but didn't give it a thought seeing as it has a 6-3 wing. Looking at the diagrams that Jennings has put up, the alteration looks do-able.
  12. Wanting to build, in the near future, a RAF F-86-F4 Sabre with slatted wings. Plan is to mount it on a piece of the actual wing of XD707. This is one of the 2 aircraft that crashed in the Dark Peaks in July 1954. The other a/c was XD730, both of 66 squadron. Unfortunately both pilots were killed. To this day, nobody knows if the aircraft collided in mid air or hit the top of Kinder Scout (highest part of the Dark Peaks) whilst flying in low cloud and below the permitted height. I've tried to get my hands on a slat wing version but came up with nothing. Anybody help out with any ideas. Cheers
  13. With the head section in the spray booth drying I decided to make a start on the main body. First 2 photos show the main parts of the body. 3rd shows the parts roughly dry fitted. The graduation rings are set for a target at a distance of 200yds and with a wing span of 40ft. These can be modelled at any setting. 4th is the milky white lens that I have cut that will go inside the main body. This does need a little clean up. Last one is the main lens that fits in the head. As the one supplied is made of acrylic it does not have the greenish edge that you would get with real glass. To get this effect, I used a thin coat of Tamiya clear green. The main body data panel has been filled to remove the stamp detail as this only applies to the later version.
  14. Correct, both lenses are acrylic. Instructions tell you to make one yourself to fit inside the body approx 1/3 the way down as the real sight had a milky appearance to the inside. Hope that makes sense. A tip is to make it out of a white dvd case.
  15. Here's my entry into the tribute group build. This is the 1:1 scale, Tail Boom, Bar & Stroud gun sight (early version) as used in the BoB Spitfires, Hurricanes etc. In fact it was fitted till 1941 when it was replaced with an upgraded version. The later version had a rectangular sight glass. First 2 photos show the parts minus clear the lenses. The 3rd shows the crash pad. When this was removed from the casting block some of the texturing was lost and also 4 pin holes appeared. I used milliput to cover the whole side and then blended the edges in with a wet finger. I then used the same method to regain some texture. The last 3 photos show just the head section parts. The crash pad is held in place with a drill bit and the sight lens is only placed in it's slot for the photos. Chris
  16. When Santa has been and left me the Tail Boom 1:1 scale Bar & Stroud Mk.II gun sights, I intend to enter the early version in the Spitfire tribute group build. This was used in the Spitfires and various other RAF fighters until around 1941.
  17. Thats very good of your friend to allow you post pictures of his work.
  18. I don't want to encourage you, sorry I mean him, but one would look really good. On that basis you, sorry him, should build it and put it with yours, sorry his other models whever you, he keeps them. What about the 1990's raspberry ripple
  19. Pulled up a chair to watch this one. Mosquito prototype, W4050, makes a great choice of build.
  20. I've been in touch with Vingtor decals about the BOAC decals. Was told they are not going to release any in 1:32 scale but they have arranged for another company to do them. This may mean the Fundekals that you are going to use, may be a 1:32 scale re-release of the Vingtor decals that I posted a link to. If so, I'm in for a set for the Mk.VI.
  21. The one thing that people don't realise is that the Mosquito's were crewed by civilian BOAC aircrew, not RAF personal, hence the G registrations and BOAC markings
  22. Mostly ball bearings from Sweden but they also carried a passenger some times. The passenger was put into the stripped out bomb bay, laying on cushions and given air and comms through a standard RAF flight mask. Not the most comfortable of rides. Most, if not all flights were made from RAF Leuchars on the east coast of Scotland. Anybody interested in golf and has watched the British open from St. Andrews, Leuchars is the airbase that can be seen across the Eden estuary.
