  1. That is so awesome !!! Thank you for sharing this restoration update Zac... I really like the paint scheme it's going to wear when it's done... Do you know if it will be painted silver, polished aluminum or the natural metal patina that Mustang restorations are starting to wear... Thanks again, Mike
  2. I see where there is room to add weight into the nose - but I can't find any information as to how much is needed to make her sit on her landing gear correctly... Anyone build this kit yet that can shed a little light on the amount needed ? Thanks in advance, Mike
  3. I helped crew on several different warbirds over the years and can tell you even though the gloss paint is not authentic - it sure is a lot easier to keep clean - even on a beast like this... Mike
  4. You may be onto something with the Mk 83's... I googled them and Flying Leathernecks offers a nice looking set with 3 different tip options including the pointed tip in the photo above... I guess I need to go home tonight and check the measurements of them compared to the model I'm building... Thanks, Mike
  5. Hey everyone, I'm building a Fisher Models 1/32 A-1E Skyraider based on this warbird shown below and I need help with these bombs on the inner pylons... To me they kind of look like Mk 82's just without the fuse sticking out the front instead of the pointy tips seen here... Does anyone know of a 1/32 kit that has these kind of bombs or a after market resin version I could purchase ? I appreciate any help with this... Thanks, Mike
  6. B-E-A-U-TIFUL job !!! The Bearcat has always been my favorite warbird... Mike
  7. i just ordered some stainless steel bearings online from Walmart... Mike
  8. Health always comes first John... Best wishes for a speedy recovery and we'll be right here building models when you are able to get back to it... Mike
  9. Yes Sir - that looks like exactly like what I need and 7mm is the right size for the application I'm needing... I would definitely like to purchase a set of these lens... Thanks, Mike
  10. Thank you Thierry... I appreciate it... Mike
  11. Be nice to see the fat face skyraider conversions come back - especially after the prices I've seen of the last 3 or 4 go for on ebay... Mike
  12. Do any of the aftermarket folks make an assortment of clear windows in various shapes and sizes ? I need a flat round window for a Spitfire PR XIX where the camera goes on left side of fuselage behind the cockpit... I've looked in my parts bend but nothing... Thanks, Mike
  13. Thanks Dennis and Jennings... I appreciate the information... Mike
  14. Good afternoon everyone, I had a question about the Tamiya Corsairs that I have had zero luck when trying to research or I've just overlooked it so here goes - do any of their Corsair kits give you the option of the squared off wing tips that some models of the real Corsair had or is that one of those things that you just have to modify on your own ? Below is an example of one that flies in New Zealand... Thanks, Mike
  15. I have been fortunate to call Snort my friend for 21 years... My Step Dad was his crew chief on the F-86 Sabre "Skyblazers" for 10+ years and in that time I've watched him fly numerous Air show performances in a T-6 Texan, P-51D Mustang, F4U-5 Corsair, Mig-15UTI, L-39 and several different Sabres with such pristine performances... I was blessed to get to ride with him in both the T-6 and the Corsair that had been restored with a back seat... When my Step Dad passed away almost 3 years ago - Dale tried his best to make it to the memorial - but unfortunately had commitments on the west coast doing training with the military while he was flying for Draken International - but I remember him calling me the day before to tell me he couldn't make it and asked if he could email me a letter would I read it at Dad's memorial... When I got it - I was in tears before I could finish reading it... The bond and trust they had for each other was amazing and he knew Dad always gave him a safe aircraft to go do his routine with - and I'll always be grateful for that letter which I still have - and get out to read once in a while and still get those tears... And then I wake yesterday to read the horrible news and my friend is gone... I'd like to think that Snort and Dad are getting ready for a heavenly performance... Blue Skies Sir, Mike aka "The Gimpster" "The Gimpster" is the call sign Snort gave me after I shattered my left knee on the job...
  16. Hey Andy, I've been thinking about my options on this engine... #1 is I can buy an aftermarket resin engine (so there's more money) or #2 it dawned on me that when I purchased the Hobby Boss A-26 - people were talking how it had the wrong engine in the kit (14 cylinder R-2600 instead of 18 cylinder R-2800) so I purchased a couple of resin R-2800's for the A-26 but I think the wrong engines in the kit may be the same engine the Helldiver uses - so I'm going to dig out the A-26 kit tonight and see if it will work... Have a great day, Mike
  17. I agree Andy... I just started working on mine last week and one thing that I've noticed is how many and how thick the plastic is attaching the parts to the spruce trees... When I removed the parts for the engine - it had two attach points on each cylinder - just seems like serious overkill to have 14 attach points on half a engine part... But hey, on the bright side I'm happy to finally have a Helldiver in 1/32 scale... Have a great day, Mike
  18. It must not have stayed in these colors for very long - as even a search of L-39's online I couldn't find it... Thanks Pete and keep on having fun... Mike
  19. With all the different jets that your involved with - I wanted to ask if you're familiar with the L-39 that was based in Florida (I think around Jacksonville or St. Augustine) that was painted kinda like the "Tiger Meet" colors... The front of it was yellow with black tiger stripes and the rest was dark gray... I seen it perform one time at the NAS Jax airshow many years back and haven't seen it since - so I didn't know if it was still around or maybe moved on to a new owner and paint scheme... I'm not 100% sure - but I think the pilot's name was Bob Cox... Thanks, Mike
  20. Have you seen that Draw Decals has "What's up Doc" decals on their website...
  21. Thanks Jennings... I kinda figured that but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask... Over the years I have collected letters & numbers in different sizes and colors so I also have that option of laying it out one letter at a time. Thank you, Mike
  22. Good afternoon everyone, Does anyone make any aftermarket Naval Air Station decals ? Specifically I'm looking for Glenview NAS markings for a Corsair... The Warbird Heritage Foundation has taken delivery of their newly restored FG-1D Corsair that has been beautifully restored in Dark Sea Blue with the orange band around the fuselage and it is absolutely gorgeous and would make a great model to build... Thanks, Mike
  23. I got my notice from Hannants yesterday - just waiting to ship out... I did not get any of the upgrade sets - but total cost with shipping to Central Florida was only around $93... I'm really looking forward to seeing this beast in person... Mike
