My father was a WW II veteran, he served in the US Army, 3rd Division. He was in North Africa, Italy and Southern France. He passed away June 5th, 2011 ...

Actually  WW2 was a kind of  a legacy to me, being a son of a polish soldier who was a member of the polish 2nd army division directed by general Anders after  going through being imprissoned by the russian army and lateron via Iran turning out to be the most devastating force battling the Monte Cassino event.

Passed away in 1982, i'm still feeling his way of being here, since my son is surely having  his way of doing and thinking about things!!!

Here's a guy that's a pretty famous WWII veteran who just turned 100 - Clarence E. "Bud" Anderson (DOB 1/13/1922).  I don't keep track of  many of these vets; he's been in my mind since I read his book several years ago.

That's one impressive kit.  Not sure I'd tackle something like that - seems like you'd have to devote at least a year to nothing but that model to do it justice.

OK, that stressed skin is amazing.  If I didn't already have the HK sitting on the shelf, I might be tempted. But I just don't think I have the patience to finish it and the skill level to do a kit like that justice. My attention to detail would become my handicap and I would never finish due to going back and redoing what I already did.   Nor would I have a place I could display it where I could get close enough to see the stressed skin after it was done.

Want to see an episode of The Twilight Zone for modelers?  Give me one of those kits and set up a camera at my building table.

I think the vast majority of people who read your post understood the implication that this was a global statement, not related to any particular nation. No offense was taken here either.

I don’t think you had a rant at all, matter of fact. I thought it was very touching.  Thanks so much for taking the time to share this with us all.
I have noticed several people have the same feeling That I do about the loss
of this greatest generation, and also much regret in past years for talking with vets and not trying to record,or even keep in touch with them.
lf you have ever seen Halseys Typhoon on the history channel, one of the sailors from the USS Hull  Patrick Doohan . I had met him several times at the
Sunnyside post office of all places, here in Fresno, and never thought to ask him if he wanted to get a cup of coffee, or something. I was to wraped upon my daily life. Sadly Patrick passed away in 2015 another piece of history gone.
on the brighter side I went to the mid Atlantic air museum, and they are having
their 31st annual D Day this June . They have about 26 Ww2 vets coming as
guest speakers, and 1 of them is a Lanc pilot from RAF Bomber command
who flew missions to France ,as well as Germany.WOW.
Their web site did say that personal health, as well as the weather could
affect the final number who show, but anyway some will be there,I know I will be there for the full 3 days. Thanks go out to Kwagmyre, thanks for the tip. Check out the web site if you get a chance.   Pappy1

If you want to read about a crazy story, read about Rickenbacker's several near death events in plane crashes, including being lost on a life raft in the Pacific. They are crazy stories.

Well I probably should have clarified my statement I unlike most people consider all people of the earth as one (especially since it was a
World War I guess I should have listed each country involved during the 1938 through 1945 war all vets be they allied,or axis)
They (the vets )all have valuable and interesting information that will soon be gone.
I am aware of the covid problem also, but I have seen somethings by different groups (no not 100 year old veterans) where they have done
some get togethers online and face time although on a small scale.
I know that the U.S. Airforce museum is planning a 15th. Airforce heavy bomb groups, symposium in September. The screening to get in is strict and there may
not be any WW2 vets(from any countries) there unless they possibly live
    in the general area.
I thought if anyone new something it might be someone
from LSP sorry if I ruffled someone’s feathers, but I really don’t recall mentioning any country ,I felt that by saying our vets , anyone reading the post would think of their own vets or ones that they had known.

    Have a a nice day     Pappy1

J.C. reacted to BradG in Lightning sucks...or why I won't be around much for a while.....
Last Thursday morning at about 7am, my house and I were struck by a burst of lightning. It set fire to the roof of our house causing significant damage and also caused some issues with me, removing my little toe nail and causing some issues with the nerves in my hand (it shocked my while on the computer through the mouse). So I'm pretty busy organsing things for my parents at the moment. Luckily most of the contents of the house are ok, lost a few books, a few unbuild models and had to give away all my built stuff (those that weren't melted) but everyone is fine.

Hopefully I will be back to some normality soon.

The war ended close to eighty years ago. With the average age of soldiers being somewhere around 21, that would place survivors right around the century mark, with the youngest being in their nineties. My mother (a Holocaust survivor) was born in 1929. She was SIXTEEN when she was liberated by the Canadians. Today, she is 92. The veterans and survivors alive today will most assuredly be gone in another five to ten years at the outset. Who will be left to keep the memories alive and to ensure fascism and fascist states do not endanger the safety of the world again? It is the responsibility of our generation and future generations to keep these lessons alive. To be honest, given the rise of racist and fascist ideologies all over the western world these days (yet again, UGH) I am not holding out much hope.
Just yesterday, Whoopi Goldberg very publicly on American television stated that the Holocaust was not about race and racial politics. The Great Amnesia has already started.

    Hi,

If you want a full comprehensive guide, I'm pleased to say that the next eBook from KLP Publishing will be this very build:

Building the Italeri CF-104 Starfighter in 1/32 Scale, Build Guide Series 12

According to Kevin it should be done by the end of January or early February, so not too long to wait if you want a step by step guide without sifting through 41 pages of this thread.  It will also have over 100 walkaround  photos by Gord McTaggart, of the CF-104 that currently resides at The Military Museum here in Calgary Alberta, Canada, which I used a lot for references.

    Cheers,
    Chuck

1/32 scale no less. At 160 km or about 99 miles in diameter, full scale, we only need a space about 5 km in diameter to display it. Shipping may be a bit difficult.
