  1. I am using AM open cowl flaps and I found some room for slight improvement by adding flap mechanism cables made from stretched sprue:
  2. Engine plumbed and ready for weathering:
  3. Thank you! Appreciated. I used HGW standard cockpit stencils. Best, Nikola
  4. Seatbelts in place. Only some idiot didn't read the text under the headrest which clearly says that the belts must go over the brace tube!
  5. Hi Andy. Thanks for the heads up. Appreciated. We'll see how it goes. Best, Nikola
  6. Cockpit almost done. I f'd up some stencils and didn't use them in the end. This is my first time working with them so now know what to do next time. Lesson learned. Left to do - some more dry brushing, chipping, scratches, seatbelts, etc. I might even do some wiring. I'll see. Best, Nikola
  7. What a beautiful model! Real eye candy! Well done! Thanks for sharing. One comment if I may - It might be just the lighting in the photos so I might be wrong, but the white stripes on the fuselage and tail (and in some photos the Hinomaru(s)) seem to be a bit too clean and fresh compared to the rest of the aircraft and somehow stand out a bit too much. It doesn't by any means diminish the beauty of your model and as I said, it might be just due to the photos. Again, great work. Best, Nikola
  8. Hi gents, Some progress with the office and the engine. Not much and there is still a lot of work to be done, but this is it for now until I get back from vacation. I intentionally slightly overdid the seat hoping that when the seatbelts come it will all be visually balanced. I also decided not to scratch build the inside of the cowl flaps due to lack of enough free time. Thus I am going AM with this:
  9. Some initial progress... Cockpit, tail wheel mechanism and engine parts ready for primer. Best, Nikola Of course I managed to break both 0.3 and 0.4mm drill bits so it is what it is with 0.6mm in the end.
  10. Excellent work! Brilliant paintwork and weathering. Very inspirational. Well done! One comment - IMHO, the only thing that stands out are the exhaust stains. Somehow they look too "regular" and too white. Not realistic enough compared to the rest. As for the shape, if I remember correctly, Stukas had a curvy stain following the airflow around the wings. I might be mistaken though. Just my opinion on that one thing and does not by any means diminish the beauty of your model. Thanks for sharing! Best, Nikola
  11. Your work is amazing in every aspect! I am stunned by the quality of it all. Brilliant and inspiring! Question - which type and gauge of wire did you use for all your wiring work? Best, Nikola
  12. I know! That's why I got the EagleCals ones, as I just started work on the same kit. I'll try, just for the sake of it, to use my regular go to method on them - soak them in Humbrol decal solution instead of water and transfer them to a test surface. It works like charm with all other decals, but as you said, Tami's ones are tough sons of... Best, Nikola
  13. I found this excerpt about Birdcages from Dana Bell's book: "The aircraft was expected to have two coats of primer over most assemblies. The first coat was untinted (yellow) zinc chromate; the second coat was to be tinted to ensure that there were no 'holiday' areas that received only one coat. As such, there should be salmon nearly everywhere. The inside of the engine cowl also needed an additional finish coat to reduce the possibilities of flash fires. This was usually the same Light Gray camouflage lacquer used on Corsair undersurfaces." I guess that the inside of the cowl flaps was also light gray. Best, Nikola
  14. Maybe two coats of primer were applied only to areas where no further paint was to come.
