  1. I may end up going that same route as well. Decisions to be made now. Unfortunate that I removed the moldings for holding the kit cockpit, too! Sadly no, at least not with the IP. The difference in width is pretty significant and I'd lose too much on the Quinta parts.
  2. So…yeah. Now that I’ve dived into the cockpit, the Quinta decal’s definitely won’t fit the IP’s as they’re wider than the Aires parts. Deep thought time…..or maybe watch some SG1?
  3. Will avoid stabbing myself with the pointy bits! Would you recommend doing the bays? Worth it? Definitely looking forward to getting the Quinta parts on. As for Aires, so much sanding. No update today other than more sanding and dry fitting. And then more sanding…and fitting.
  4. Awesome, thanks Shujaa. Just shot Ernie an email and it didn’t bounce back immediately, so there theres hope!
  5. I'll have to dig around more, didn't find them on eBay and every other place is just showing discontinued. Thanks for the tip though! At least it's only half as wide as it is long? Stubby wings Just some kick off work. Sucking resin dust (not) and sanding down the inside of the cockpit walls of the kit parts. I've got everything fitting well. The center bulkhead had a slight lean backwards, so hot water bath and now just holding it forward with some sprue while it cools down (overnight). Also, the seats, along with the additional parts that go with them, should turn out pretty well. Nice starting point compared to the kit. It's going to be....interesting getting the Quinta parts to fit Aires, but just eyeballing it says it works. We'll see! Thanks for following along.
  6. I generally don't flip my models over once they're done.....but with how tall this will sit, it might be worth picking these up! I have! Suggestions are welcome, as so far I'd only seen the SAC replacements (which I haven't heard good about). Any other options out there?
  7. Glad of the company, hopefully it doesn't bog down Thanks, Mike! Thanks, Woody! If you have any reading suggestions, share away. I'm always up for new books. Thanks, Rom. Looks like it's in development still, but definitely looks interesting! Now, time to grind some plastic to fit the Aires tub.
  8. I'm back, and hopefully not with another kit that ends up on the shelf of doom. This is a bird that I've been interested in for a very long time, having read Termite Hill and Lucky's Bridge by Tom Wilson years ago, both of which focused on the Thud. I've also recently read Hunter Killers by Dan Hampton about the creation of the Wild Weasels, all of which I recommend for some background info on the F-105 and it's uses. So, after nothing was fitting on the T-28C/D Trojan I'd been working on, and the lack of interest in the plane as well, it's ended up boxed at this point, sitting on the shelf for (hopefully) another rematch someday. Now I've got the F-105G, and a bit of aftermarket, to make some winter time building. Now, the first thing.....this thing is HUGE compared to the other 1/32 kits I've built. It'll dwarf my Corsair and Dauntless, whenever it ends up in the display cabinet. I've picked up a few bits of aftermarket, with the Quintas Studio's cockpit the one I'm most interested in trying. I'm going to see what I can do to combine this with the Aires cockpit, Eduard PE and the kit parts. We'll see how well that works! I also have GT Resin's update set for the Wild Weasel, with a new nose, vertical stabilizer, engine, etc. New resin wheels/tires and also a nice turned metal nose probe to top things off. I'll also probably be needing to find some metal landing gear, as all of this is going to get heavy, plus adding additional weight to the nose to keep this from turning into a tail sitter. Special thanks to @Dragon for sending me some decals a while back that will get used in this build! And....finally, I also picked up something for later, Randy Coopers Blade Runner 2049 Spinner. This will be a challenge, as I've never tackled a full resin kit!
  9. Really nice work, John. Almost to the finish line!
  10. Note to self: don’t even think about starting your F-16CJ Wild Weasel till Chuck maps out the tips and tricks!
  11. Here's mine. Still need to replace my old shelving to match the remodel (walls, flooring), hence the barren walls.
  12. Moved to some of the seams and rivets for little today, not a lot to show. I dislike riveting (or at least, adding rivets back I wipe out) and I'm never really happy with how they turn out, at least till paint helps cover them up. Seam smoothed and rivets added back Overall progress shot. I combined both the upper and lower cowling panels for each side, in an attempt to make sure they fit correctly/straight. We'll see if that's a horrible idea soon enough. Since my progress is slow, figured I might share another vice. AKA, Lego's. I've spent entirely too much on these, but.....they are fun. Last one I built. And just one from our national parks road trip in July. It's hotter now (in Utah) than it was then! 102F/39C Sadly, no close encounters.
  13. Reading last years posts…..and, this is exactly what I’m finding up front too
  14. Oof, I don’t envy you doing that masking. But, wow….that looks GREAT.
  15. Thanks Alex. So far, no complaints against the kit. The panels are crisp, rivets nice and even in depth, panel lines all seem to be very well molded. Maybe my one gripe is some less than positive positioning I just noticed on the nose gear landing bay to cockpit. Either I didn't glue the two assemblies together correct or the fit was incorrect. Otherwise, good stuff so far! Even the instrument panel decals were very well done. Brett
  16. Minor update, I'm calling the engine good enough for government work. Not great, not terrible. There's a few seams I missed, but once it's buttoned up in the nose, they shouldn't be noticeable. Onto the wings!
  17. Really nice work. Those Barracuda decals really bring the panels to life. You should get some mail in a day or two, hope they're helpful!
  18. Same here, Woody. Nice and small and mine haven't even started losing their edge after 4 years. Plus, the handles are a nice, bright blue...ha! As for the gloss coat, I don't think that I did that on either my Corsair or the Dauntless when I dirtied them up. Crumple, assemble, wash. At least for me
  19. Wow. Impressive, and beautiful, work! Thanks for sharing the steps.
  20. Super nice work on the cowl. Looking forward to seeing the fuselage!
