SB20 got a reaction from mpk in quality of trumpeter kits?
Some kits are pretty darn good. I very much enjoyed building the P-47 Razorback. I'm enjoying their Dauntless right now. I've also trashed many Trumpeter kits out of frustration. I think it's very kit specific.

SB20 got a reaction from Greg W in Reno Mustang
I've enjoyed stepping away from military birds and have gotten into building racers. After I completed the Bardahl Special build, I went back to Draw Decals to shop around. As soon as I came across Risky Business I knew I had my next build. Super shiny, plus enough modifications to set it apart but not a complete rebuild. Heres the scheme I'll be building:
The fuselage will be foil, and the white wings will be a new car type paint a friend pointed out. I'll modify the cockpit to remove the military equipment, create the pointed spinner, and find a way to add the flaired racing wingtips. My hope is to have it ready for San Marcos. Now I'm just waiting for my Tamiya Mustang to arrive from Tamiya USA.

Excellent information Brian. I've got someone who may 3D design and print them for me, but if not that's a great way to tackle it.

Man, cool build! Will follow along for sure!
As to the up flared wing tips.................hope you dont mind me putting in some demo pics:
I did a set of the opposite (down turned) wingtips on my CHC II Beaver.
Although you would need to reverse it obviously the process would work identical. It was super easy actually. I just took some thick brass sheet and rolled it around something round (in this case a Mag light flash light), then cut a slot in the wing tips, and inserted the rectangular section till it looked right. Then I just took some Milliput and filled in the whole thing, then sanded it to shape. And because the core is stolid brass and very stiff, you can get the trailing edges nice and scale thin too:
The finished product/brass technique painted up, turned out quite well I think:

SB20 got a reaction from LSP_K2 in Heads Up! Mig-29UB on sale for $50
Kits just arrived at my door. 24 hours from order to arrival! Granted, I live in Dallas, but still very nice Squadron.

I agree, but they did get my attention again, where previously I was only buying cheap things just to enter Eaglequest.

Same here. This is what will bring me back as a customer. Actually having real sales and quality processing. I'm very content with Squadron right now.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I haven't ordered anything from Squadron in several years (nothing in stock, 'sale prices' higher than normal prices elsewhere, etc.), but just scored two Trumpeter 1/32 P-38 kits for just over $90 shipped.
Now I can strip my Revell P-38 kits of the stuff needed to make the Trumpeter kits right, and then bin the rest of those dinosaurs.

SB20 got a reaction from TorbenD in Tamiya P-51 Racer
This is my Tamiya P-51 converted into the Reno racer "Bardahl Special". I scratch built the rear cockpit removing all surplus equipment including the fuel tank. I also removed all armament, and used a propeller from a Bearcat to create a P-51H propeller as used on this airframe. AMS resin drop tanks are used for the 150 gallon tanks that Bardahl carried during the race to Reno. Decals are from Draw Decals. I have another set of racer decals reroute since I enjoyed this build so much.
