  1. When I got back into the hobby 5 years ago I was astonished at the improvement in quality, detail and engineering. Also the vast quantity of specialized tools and materials available. I was and still am intimidated by it all. I feel that my skills are not nearly developed enough to fully do justice to these excellent kits. The old days of tube glue, rubber bands and clothes pins are long gone as I have spent an embarrassing amount of money on specialized tools and other necessities. The hobby has matured and there is a nearly infinite variety to satisfy every taste and budget. Am glad to be here. Happy modeling, John
  2. My dad got me started very young. Mostly cheap 1/48 aircraft. Start to finish in a weekend. Then came that fateful day when I got my first big boy kit; the venerable Revell 1/32 F4u1D. I was hooked. Haven't even looked at anything smaller since. Probably built 3 dozen or so before girls and cars pulled me away. Building large scale WW2 aircraft resumed in 2018. Am currently working on number 16, a Revell 1/32 He-111H.
  3. I share Richard's frustration. I always have a build on the bench but for lack of time, progress is much too slow. I do differ from many in that I will only have one build at a time. I seem to be only interested in the model at hand. Though I do deliberate much as to which kit to start next. Not untill I finish the current build will I finally pick the next project. This is best for me as I doubt that I could manage the organizational skill required to successfully pull off multiple builds. Maybe I will try doing multiple builds when I retire. I long for the day when I can devote ample the time and energy that this hobby deserves.
  4. Very well done! And I agree that the stance of the undercarriage looks much better than the kit legs. Also I would be much interested to hear how you got on with the Alleycat conversion.
  5. My libertarian heart is happy to see any and all partake in any subject and any scale they like. But I still remember my first 1/32 model build as an adolescent and from that moment on I simply lost all interest in anything smaller. Besides, I have over the years acquired so many 1/32 and 1/24 kits that to branch out now is unnecessary. Incidentally, I also limit myself to WW2 subjects only. But again, if anyone wants to build the 1/35 Border offerings and submit pics to this website I will be happy to take a look and admire. Happy modeling
  6. I do enjoy this type of conversation as it shows us a common character among us. A predominant trait we share is a desire for perfection. An appreciation for precision. I may never achieve it but always striving for it. Is it our competitive ego that drives us to excell? Yes I think so to varying degrees. All of man's accomplishments are born from the need to excell. Add to that an appreciation of beauty and here we are, among other things; modelers. So keep on counting those rivets and matching the color of mud on the tires etc etc. And as always, happy modeling
  7. Between the highly realistic finish and smart photography you wonder if you are looking at an actual aircraft. Really stunning!
  8. Fine work on a massive kit. Am currently working on one of these. Enjoyed seeing yours. Thanks for sharing.
  9. Yes, I am well acquainted with the nonsense. But in the end we have something to be proud of and to admire. I have not built the Revell Fw190 yet but your effort here causes me to look forward to building this kit. Thank you
  10. I second that! I have four Cyberhobby 109s yet to build. Two I saved by fitting into the wings while still flexible but two others were hardened in deformed shape and now useless. Only flaw in an otherwise fantastic kit.
  11. Congratulations on a job well done! Thanks for not clipping the wings. Such an elegant aircraft.
  12. When the Italeri kit came to market, I gave it a thorough look. I decided to decline purchase as its flaws rendered it overpriced for me. Now that Aircraft in pixels have corrected most of the kits flaws I will most definitely pick this kit up. Thank you Bo.
  13. The new ZM Fw190 is in stock at Scale hobbyist. $129
  14. Definitely agree that the Spitfire is the most graceful aircraft ever designed. Add the low back, broad rudder and five blade Griffon qnd it is unmatched in beauty and elegance. And Tom's point about the wings being full/unclipped is perfect. Clipped wings seem almost a crime.
  15. Being able to paint the filter element separately is more than worth the cost of the upgrade part!
  16. Very good work here. Am working on the same kit and hope that mine turns out nearly as well. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Details like your radiator flap improvements are the mark of excellence. And I must say that IMO, a kit of this quality and in this scale makes the extra effort almost mandatory. Keep up the fine work.
