  1. Don't you think you should change your topic's title to something like "...now dead for sure!"
  2. We had a lot of Canadians in California when I was there, not only as fellow Engineering college students, but also William Shatner and Alex Trebek, a few of my fellow church members other fellow company employees in So. Cal as well, and unless you listened for certain words like "oot" for "out", etc.,, it could be very hard to pick them out from a crowd.
  3. I wonder if Snoopy was a Canadian at heart...
  4. My guess it must be a combination of two factors, one historical and one scale-model kit-wise. It had a lot of "teething-pains", and its' career was short-lived, one reason was that it was not a considered a "pilot's airplane" for flight and landing characteristics. Although Monogram and Accurate Miniatures made made them in 1/48th scale, only Monogram came with a folding wing option, but lacked accurate details. For Accurate Miniatures, an AM set was made if you wanted your wings folded, which tells me that might be a "stumbling block" for a Chinese kit maker wanting the "easy-out" of copying either one of them in order to make theirs in 1/32.
  5. Your skill is excellent as usual, Gaz! Your attention to all the details is outstanding; the engine, cockpit, fuselage markings, propeller, and rigging all. Thank you for showing the result of your painstaking effort for us here.
  6. That's partly correct. Before they were absorbed into the later in the war formed USAS, American pilots flew in both the Lafayette Escadrille and the Lafayette Flying Corps where the pilots in both units flew SPAD VII's. These more experienced pilots were obliged to join the USAS, and encouraged to "bone up" the green, raw trainees freshly brought over from the U.S. under Pershing. As it turned out, their "dive like hell" doctrine turned out to be a bad idea with the early Nieuport 28's as they tended to shed wing fabric in a prolonged dive. This caused the fresh American recruits to accuse the French of "dumping" on them a machine the French considered unsatisfactory. When they were finally given SPAD XIII's, they were very happy to give up the Nieuports for the more rugged machine.
  7. Well done, of course. Sorry about the delayed response, I am still getting used to navigating the new format. I guess I lost track of your explanation elsewhere, why did you use the wheels off the old Matchbox model John?
  8. I would prefer it to the Grumman Duck! In certain respects it could out-perform a Hellcat.
  9. For your further education: USN Union Jack: http://www.seaflags.us/ensign/Ensign.html Curtiss SC-1 Seahawk: http://www.usslittlerock.org/Armament/SC-1_Aircraft.html
  10. A work of perfection! Excellent color choices: Topside coat and weathering is great. Perfect contrasts and subtle weathering for the underside. Very nice cockpit work with guns and harnesses Nice fading with the insignia.
  11. Looks like a normal issue USN Naval Jack on the bow and a standard pair of Curtiss SC-1 Seahawks on the stern to me.
  12. I use cuticle nippers that I get at my local Wal-Mart nail-care section:
  13. Looks like a candidate for a naval museum!
  14. I clicked on your name by the photo and looked at your Flickr account, I also like your other builds, also very nice: https://www.flickr.com/photos/156300362@N05/ Do you have them posted on this site as well?
  15. Excellent job Brian! You work on the figures makes a minimal/skeletal airframe into a well-balanced scene!
  16. However, the American doctrine for flying the SPAD was when attacked by surprise, dive like hell! With their wing having less drag then the D-7, they could ensure a usually certain escape. They had learned this technique with the SPAD VII's.
  17. No camera fairings Larry. They simply had a place for a camera in the front part of the canopy. When the pilot came back from his mission, the camera was removed.
  18. Excellent metal finish! Your "dirtying-it-up" is "just right"!
  19. I would think you have an award-winner here!
  20. It looks like it came straight from the Junkers factory to me.
