Gosh how few jets make people’s list. I suppose it’s not likely based on the trend. Airfix should make a 1/24 Bearcat or maybe I should just finish mine someday! lol

With the success of the inboard nacelle, I was committed. I got a few hours on the outboard one last night and all the offending material has been replaced.

And a view of the overall result:

    Much better methinks!!!!

Now onto the top of the inboard nacelle and some more stainless near the firewalls....... edging ever close to getting those cyclones fitted!

    Cheers,

Jim Barry reacted to Lancman in Hasegawa Bf-109 G4 out the box, well sort of.
Been a long time since I've posted anything, had a few false starts over the last few years but in reality my heart wasn't in it. A lot has happened in the past few years from a couple of health scares, taking early retirement from my job after 44 years ( not health related ) to our first Granddaughter arriving.
So I have decided to try and get back into building again especially with quite a few semi started kits kicking around the house, I thought I need something nice and simple so after raking through the stash I found the venerable Hasegawa 109. Upon opening the box apart from the kit parts there was an MDC cockpit, Quickboost exhausts, Radu's seat belts and wheel well upgrade. Wow I forgot all this was in there plus I reckon it's been at least 15+ years since I last built one so that could be how long the bits have been in the box.
I'm going for a German 109 rather than the Italian one on the box, so the markings will be replaced with aftermarket ones.
So far I have built the cockpit using the MDC set apart from the main panel, I replaced it with the pre-painted one from Eduard as I couldn't be ersed yet doing it plus it looks a hell of a lot better than I could do. It only needed a bit of trimming to get it to fit, I used material the seat belts and they proved quite a challenge as my eyesight has gone to pot and the hands shake a bit so getting the material through the buckles was infuriating at times plus I've cheated a bit missing threading it through some of the buckles.
So far it's been quite enjoyable and a learning process all over again.

Finally, I painted the whole thing with light brown Arcyl paint to imitate wood.
Despite the filigree structure, the skeleton is surprisingly stable. Of course - it is a HURRICANE !
    Until next time! Thomas

    Thanks!
No, this one is a Tamiya.

When you get to the decal stage, that top yellow scallop will be much easier if you cut it up into more sections than the two parts it comes as.  I lost my religion with that one.

Near to my heart is this kit from Revell. I built it as a kid around 1975 and it held the title of my only completed LSP until the Fury in 2017 (which my last one). So, for fun, I thought I would pull this up from the bottom of the stash, let it pass many other projects ahead of it in line,  and take a shot at it. A few videos on the Blue Angels of that Phantom era got my juices flowing. Did you know there have been 26 fatalities flying for the team over the years? With only 260 pilots ever flying for them, that's 1 in 10! These are brave, brave men.  Further, I'm a fan of the team having seen them many times over the years (I live 10 minutes from Brunswick Naval Air Station (now decommissioned). .

This is NOT a serious build and some will find this almost incomparable to the the Phantoms others are doing here. Hats off to them.

There are many issues with the kit as can probably be attested my many here, but I'm not going to get to into this other than the cockpit which is truly scary weird. Why not just get the Tamiya kit? Well, like I said, I just wanted to go back memory lane with this kit, though I do harbor thoughts, I'm wasting my time. Ha!

Here's a bunch of shots of the real thing. Beautiful! It was not a great Blue Angel and though tolerated, the pilots were disappointed to lose the more agile F-11 Tiger and after enough crashes they 'went back in time and selected the A-4 (a much older jet then the F-4). Why did they use it? Because the Thunderbirds did! (so the pilots told the camera in an interview I saw). I bet it was awesome to see them in formation and the sound must have been Earth shaking. I've watched the F-18 practice over my head which an interesting treat because they can't fly over the crowds in the real show. When they turn and burn it back to the airfield,  it's stunningly loud.

Any update on this project?  I did one earlier this year and used Tamiya TS-15 spray can blue.

Getting there. Good progress. Still amazed I built this at age 10.
