  1. Long tail obviously. Same flat cockpit floor. And atrocious exhaust openings. any other thoughts? Most likely the kit will be easy to build, following my experience with the P-40F. But accuracy wise.....you be the judge. http://www.trumpeter-china.com/index.php?g=home&m=product&a=show&id=3397&l=en
  2. Tamiya desert yellow and nato brown. Aiming for a faded thing. Will distress with oils once decals are on and sealed
  3. Same thoughts too. I may try to cast my Revell P-51D antenna mast using oyamaru. After further reading and research, I think I can skip the canopy framing since these were added to the mid to late L variants.
  4. So when trumpeter tooled this kit, they should’ve mentioned it the earlier short tail version. I noticed it lacked the antenna mast, an extra frame on the windshield, and the rear view mirror on the canopy framing appropriate for the version I’m aiming for. Should I scratch build it, or leave it be?
  5. Painting on going, after this gloss coat, then decals, then weathering!
  6. The grey matter resin tail was specifically for the Hasegawa P-40E, with an already separate tail. The resin tail is more wider at the bottom, but ok on the top when fitted on the Trumpeter P-40.
  7. Thanks! I aim to finish this by August for our IPMS competition here in Manila. :-)
  8. Double checking if everything’s square. Need to fill in some seams on the tail plane, make the rudder and fins fit better, then repaint the cockpit. I made an error using bronze green, rather then interior green. Seems I read somewhere that the cockpit was bronze green, turns out it wasn’t.
  9. After grafting the new tail, and rescribing the panel lines, I need to add to the length of the horizontal tail planes, as the trumpeter ones are shorter, since the resin tail was designed for the Hasegawa kit. So using plastic sheets I added the necessary length: checked if it matches the edges of the empennage: Filled in with epoxy putty, sanding, and viola!
  10. As the title says, I read somewhere that Curtiss used templates for the camouflage patterns for MTO aircraft. So am I right to assume that the color edges have a hard lined demarcation, or is feathered? Thanks in advance!
  11. I removed the locating tabs for the for the cockpit so I can just drop it in from below. I also glued on the tail. Next step: sanding and fixing the joint.
  12. Scribing done. Compared to an actual image.
  13. At least tail looks centered and squared. :-)
  14. Here’s the fit up close. So it may mean that the trumpeter kit is a little too narrow, OR, the Hasegawa kit is a little too wide.
  15. Thanks guys! Anyways, sawed of the short tail, and test fitted the new long tail. Had to go at it carefully, but I think this is good enough. There’s still a small step, the resin tail being a little wider than the kit fuselage.
  16. Having finished almost finished my revell P-51D, I decided to go for the Trumpeter Warhawk. Of course, the kit does have issues. After looking at the kit, 2 things strike me. One, the nose IS misshapen, already addressed is the side profile, with that huge bulge going front, but one thing no one seem to notice is that on top profile, the nose actually is wide. Second is the intake. Just. Ugh. Being a short tail, I needed to convert it to a long tail. So I got me a Grey Matter 1/32 Long Tail conversion, normally for the Hasegawa kit. I also got me the sprue for the exhaust panels from a 1/32 Hasegawa P-40E So I started by hacking off the exhaust panels, and grafted the hasegawa ones. Sanded the hell out of the nose. Literally paper thin. I placed in putty in the insides to strengthen up before I keep going. But I need your opinion guys. Here’s where I am now.
  17. I’m sorry if this topic had been discussed 10 years ago, but am I correct in assuming that the aircraft doesn’t have main landing gear covers?
  18. After wards, the decal on the tail number, at the rudder also broke up. I deduced it may be due to not enough sealant. During the process of removing it, I lifted off some paint. But since I didn't attached the decal, I decided to place it aside, and decide later if I reprint another decal, or just mask it. Anyways, I now decided to place clear gloss, did a panel line wash, and started weathering the kit. Looking at different images, the undersides of the P-51D was very dirty, so I aimed for it as close as I can From what I understand, smoke stains from USAAF aircraft was mostly dark gray, so I went with it. Light at the end of the tunnel, finally!
  19. Ok, disaster struck and the letter decals broke up. so I made a set of masks and just painted them
  20. Finally updating my build! I got sidelined because my house underwent major renovations, and because I lost the decals for the tail number for the vertical fin during the moving around. So fast forward to 2 days ago. While fixing up some stuff in the bedroom, I found the lost decals. So I placed on the tail, touched up the Donald duck decal, and here it is: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Fsu9wFDn3r3EXzes7 So I hope to finish a gloss coat by next week, followed by weathering! Light at the end of the tunnel!
  21. Thanks! This means I can build the Revell kit using June Nite decals with or without a AM fillet tail
