To tint or not to tint? I’m wondering if anyone can offer some thoughts on the colour of armoured/buttlet-proof glass used in WW2 aircraft. Specifically whether or not there is a natural aqua/green/turquoise tinge that comes from the overall thickness and type of glass lamination used. NB All images below are for illustrative purposes and intended to be under fair use - I will remove any that that accidentally do not comply: There’s plenty online images of Modern Warplanes where this is quite prominent. I’m using Spitfires mainly to illustrate this here as there are plenty of examples restored and original but my query is also aimed at all allied and Axis aircraft where armoured glass is used. But this colour tint seems either much diminished or non-existent on contemporary colour imagery. I believe the following are (hopefully) original colour images not re-coloured B/W Another example pertinent to my current build - I believe the below Airacobras should have armoured glass inside the windscreen and in the frame behind the pilot’s head - no sign of tinting at all... Any guidance / further info or ref gratefully received... Cheers, Torben

Yea Gods has it really been that long..... but not forgotten.... Distractions abound with far too much work (nice problem to have being my own boss) and my Aerotech Supermarine S5 providing the main time hungry activities but I do intend to get back to this Airacobra before too long Thor. In fact, when checking out the remaining tasks to do on the kit the other week I realised I’ve totally lost the throttle so have literally just started scratch building that... Hope to restart in earnest when back from vacation in September Torben -
Jaw droppingly wonderful - Nice one!

If shot with orthochromatic film then any yellow back cushion could easily appear as dark as it shows up in the photo with Don in. EG This largely bright yellow Gee Bee Z shot in orthochromatic looks almost black Shot with different type of film... HTH Torben

Looks pretty bob on to me Peter - I think you’ve captured a seat cushion that looks like it’s seen quite a few long range sorties... marvelous stuff. Torben
