    Hi guys.
Using my collection of 1138 photos of Hurricanes as reference, I spent the weekend weathering my BoB Mk.I. A number of photos of BoB era Hurricanes show very heavy weathering all over the metal areas, predominantly the inner wing area, and also stretching out to the mid and outer wing. Not only are many heavily affected by scuff marks from shoes, but also show staining from fluid streaking from the engine cowlings and adjacent panels behind the engine.

303 Sqn Hurricane photos show gun soot flowing further back across the wing than I'd guessed. The belly had me guessing and I screwed up quite a few weathering attempts before becoming happy with my result. I added pin washes, chalk etc and removed them all. I started random ideas I'd never heard of and forget exactly how I got to this point.

I think I'm happy with it...........

    So anyway...

I now have to repaint the wheel wells, weather the undercarriage and canopy, find where I placed all the rest of the bits, and complete it.

    Thanks for having a look.

I’m looking forward to buying one, and committing all kinds of whiffery to it. Maybe some RAAF markings, or a PR pink paint job, the sky’s the limit!

    hi
A pink PR is not to far away from possibility
Some of the first whirlwinds were built as PR machines but never made it out of Westlands before converting back to fighter config

My Dad got me the 1998 Hasegawa catalogue when I was 10 or 11 and the 1/72 J7W kits really grabbed my attention (I never got either). To see the type getting this treatment in 1/32 is very exciting!

The armament in this aircraft is 4 30mm cannons, heavy stuff….

They are really well detailed but not drilled open so I got two brass sets from ABER…

The Instrument panel comes as a clear part, I covered the back side with a piece of masking tape and used circular masks from a Maketar set for the instruments….

Several smaller things primed with Alclad Black Microfiller Primer….

The instrument panel primed with the same paint….

The Chassie, or frame, whatever, You can see what it is, primed ….

    The first parts of the cockpit glued together;

    I glued the rear shelf and the side panels together, the clear instrument panel are just added (not glued) for a bit more stability;

A BIG Thanks to all of you!

Problem is I´m an old Humbrol fart so I need to "translate" it to something I can understand as Humbrol, Colorcoates or Xtracolor.

I figured out it must be Gunze Colors as they are so common in all kits from that part of the world.

But I think I have it nailed by now.

I´m going to use the old White Ensign Colorcoates WWII IJN/IJA colors.

Once again Thanks for your help!

    Cheers!

    Stefan,

    Go here:

Model Paint Conversion Charts - ModelShade

As Alex said, it appears that the small text is Mr. Hobby/Mr. Color numbers. At the link you can cross reference the colors. Per this conversion chart, C79 crosses to Model Air 71.003, 4 out of 5 stars. But for example, C58, the conversion chart doesn't show 72007, but 72007 is a Game Color that looks close.

I have a Vallejo color chart that came in one of those combo paint packs that shows Model Color, Game Air, Model Air, and Game Color paints. I really think that the7XXXX numbers are Vallejo, but it is a mix of the different paint lines.

Stefan, I’m not sure what the five digit numbers starting with “7” are - possibly some Vallejo reference but they are not Model Air paint codes.  The small lines at the bottom of each section that read “Mr. (some Kanji) C” and then a number are definitely referring to Gunze Mr Color lacquers.  For example, if you Google “Mr. Color C79” (third from the top on the left of your chart) you will will find gloss primary red.

    Hope this is helpful.

I had the engine already partly built up and the next step was all the small exhaust pipes.
The short ones were already molded in the back plate, but the 9 longer ones had to be glued one by one.

It looked as a daunting task, HOW would i get these in place?

it looked very hard to do, but the pieces just snapped in place!
    Incredible engineering and fit!

The gearbox and the magneto pack glued to the front of the engine (faced to the rear).

The back face (facing forward, confused….?) of the engine with all the exhausts and the machine box (?) in place.

    More exhaust pipes to go…

    The long propeller axle done….

    The large radiator….

    Fuel tank done…

I repeated some old pics with new, better ones.

As usual, the build starts in the cockpit….

First I have to choose which seat to use, the one without any straps or the one with the straps molded in?
I choose the ”strapped” seat, It looks quite good, actually, almost as good as a resin seat.

The cockpit side panels built up…

    The cockpit floor…

    The engine started….

    The Turbo/Compressor stage (?)

Distributor, ignition ring and the mount for the seat pan….

The long propeller axle and the engine cooler….

The cooler is very nicely detailed….

Only thing left is to figure out which colors to use…

I can´t read Japanese and I don´t know what color-system ZM refers to, I THINK it´s Vallejo or Gunze...
