  1. I had a wood jig made by our IPMS president almost 30 years ago that was great while it lasted, but it eventually wore out. I've never seen a good biplane jig in plastic/perspex nor metal, just the cheap laser-cut stuff that is as flimsy as it looks. Given the excellent ship building jig that HobbyZone developed previously, it still seems like a logical step to see what we can do for the WingNut Wings kits out there, including those in my own stash.
  2. Here's the new product coming from HobbyZone, the Aircraft Model Assembly Jig. Take a look at the photos and specifications posted in a preview article here.
  3. Not at this time. We do have competitive shipping costs across the US.
  4. Figure painters have been using various paint jigs and other devices to hold figures or figure heads while developing the paint and finish of their subjects. I've also treated large scale instrument panels and ejection seats the same way to allow for a better 'hands-off' hold on my own paint subjects. HobbyZone has just released their own paint jig - the Painter's Grip with leather-wrapped grips for comfort: The Painter Grip is a figure painting jig that features a leather-covered handle for comfort while painting miniatures, figures and small models/subassemblies. The Grip is covered with genuine leather which makes even prolonged use comfortable in the hand. The knob at the top of the Grip with the HZ logo controls the clamp that holds your figure or model. A base is included to keep the Grip standing while taking a break or waiting for paint to dry. Main features: grip covered with genuine leather grip onto figures and miniatures mounted on pins to provide maximum level of stabilization (maximum width of gap - 0.2" (5mm)) knob for regulation gap's width desktop base to hold grip upright base will hold grip in one of two angles minimize unintended effects caused by the muscle tremble of your hands usable in either right or left hand product comes ready to use This is handmade product. Dimensions 5.9" x 1.5" x 1" (15cm x 4cm x 2.5 cm) These are available in the US for $28.95 plus shipping at www.hobbyzone.biz, and outside of the colonies at your local HobbyZone retailer.
  5. I use the OM05u paint shelf modules to hold my Akan paints as they're too large to fit into the OM05s and too small for the OM05b. There is a dead space between the bottom shelf and the bottom of the module that I've been trying to put to work. That space is ideal for paint pens like Gundam markers as well as the metallic paint pens like Molotow.
  6. The holes can be used for Dremel bits, but as you say, the holes are too small. I use my holes to hold those clips that are mounted to the end of bamboo/wood rods. The clips hold small parts for painting and drying and the rods fit into those holes perfectly.
  7. Sorry for the delayed response. When I first started building mine, I had acquired clamps thinking these were necessary and I've even read where some use nails to assemble these as well. Now with over a year of use on my modules, I can say without reservation that clamps are not needed. I use a good wood glue like Gorilla to assemble mine and a wet paper towel to wipe away any excess that oozes out of the seams. The result has been rock solid with no failures to date.
  8. Attention Canadian customers! We have received new (lower) rates from UPS and gone are those expensive brokerage fees! On orders up to $200 USD, the brokerage fee is now $4.00 plus your shipping, duties and taxes (sorry, can't help you with Canadian duty and taxes). In addition, UPS now allows you to pre-pay your duty and taxes online so you will receive your package without any delays. Please email sales@hobbyzone.biz for a shipping quote!
  9. Hi Dean, The paper towel holder is designed for the European rolls and the only way I could get a typical US roll in there was to leave out the hanger bar and brackets, plus remove part of the roll until the diameter is right. Not the best solution but it does get the bloody thing off the bench. As for the three-drawer units, I think you mean the OM02a three-drawer units and I use mine quite a bit. The only problem with those is depth and that is solved with the OM02b two-drawer units. The big limit for HobbyZone modules is the current form factor - roughly 12 inch width, six inch depth and height. I am hoping they'll consider a wider form factor. Since they made the double high (12 inch high) OM10 WIP module, I have suggested a double-wide design for the two and three-drawer units so we can have larger drawers for the larger tools that won't fit into the current drawers. The shelf modules (OM05u and OM06u) are designed for the odd-shaped bottles but as you say, they lack the depth to handle larger bottles like thinners, etc. For that purpose, we have the OM13 Hutch Module which I use to store the bottles that won't fit on the racks. Good feedback, thanks!
  10. HobbyZone has released the Brush Box, a portable enclosure that will keep your brushes and small tools safe while you're on the road or heading to/from a contest or club meeting. https://www.hobbyzone.biz/bb01.shtml
  11. Theo, if you're using the modular system, the OM05u and OM06u shelf units are what you're looking for. Alternatively, you can put those into the drawers of the OM01a just like the square bottles from Testors.
  12. Hi Hubert, I've seen a few modelers cut away some of the material to connect two holes and make room for larger tools. The mothership in Poland is constantly trying different ideas to improve the line. They've just released the Brush Box and there are several more products due to be released this year. Stay tuned!
  13. FYI, Glen (Kitty Hawk) advises that the 1/32 F-5E is indeed coming in March barring any logistics problems. He also mentioned that the Su-17 Fitter kit sold out before they even left China. What you see is all we get until they can do a second production run.
  14. You have a good point. Glen sent that in a list of releases and it is a pleasant surprise to me as well, but we haven't seen CAD or plastic shots yet so they may just be weighing our interest (YES PLEASE!) or it is one of their 'double-secret' projects coming along. Cheers, Mike Benolkin Cybermodeler/HobbyZone USA

  20. When I set up my own HobbyZone workbench, I realized that there were a number of items that I wanted close at hand without leaving on my workbench. What I needed was a storage hutch (several of them). I used OM08 Paper Towel modules for the job but I ended up throwing out parts that I didn't need (door and paper towel roll holder) just to have my storage. I am happy to report that HobbyZone has produced the OM13 Storage Hutch module for those who want a simple storage solution without throwing out (and paying for) parts you don't need. The OM13 is currently available from HobbyZone USA (www.hobbyzone.biz). You can see one of my 'converted' storage hutches in the background where I keep the thinners, glues, liquid mask, and other materials that do not fit in the paint racks that sit atop these modules. Larger tooks like my magnified small parts holder also fit nicely.
  21. I not only sell these modules, I use them extensively and really made the job of building the Kinetic (Vintage Fighter) 1/24 P-47D Razorback Thunderbolt much easier.
  22. The new OM13 Hutch Storage Modules arrive in the shop next week. These are similar to the OM08 Paper Towel modules without the extra holes and parts for the paper towel holder and with a lower price. HobbyZone will also be releasing the OM01b that has three tall drawers (OM01 has six drawers) and the OM02b two taller drawers instead of the three drawers in the OM02. No date for release but they will be coming soon. Finally we will be carrying the full range of Aizu Micron Masking Tape. These include: 0.4mm x 8m 0.7mm x 8m 1.0mm x 5m 1.5mm x 5m 2.0mm x 5m 2.5mm x 5m The Micron Tape is in stock now and the OM13s will arrive in the shop by mid-week Wednesday. Stay tuned!
  23. All of the pre-ordered Tamiya paint large racks are shipped! We have one large and six regular racks sized for the Tamiya bottles in stock with more due to arrive at the end of the week. We'll also have the modular racks for the large Tamiya bottles in that shipment as well. Thanks!
  24. Thanks Dave, I have the order and they will go out late Monday/early Tuesday depending upon when UPS arrives with that shipment.
