Thanks Andrew! Yes, I used the Eduard etch, as well as a resin 'pit (can't remember which). As far as the Tomcat on the tail, I just over-sprayed the base color until the black markings were toned down enough. Cheers! Ski

Holy cow! Man, this build keeps getting better and better. She looks amazing, I can only hope my build looks half as good! Cheers, Ski

Well, the good news is that John Bibay snapped a bunch of pics during the museum's "open cockpit days", before they painted over it. What a shame, I hate the way she looks now. I've got the pics saved, along with some pics from some other sources. Cheers! Ski

IIRC, I think it was the 300 gallon.

I hear ya, Brian. I'll be using Fisher LAU-10s and C/L Fuel Tank; hopefully the G-Factor gear comes out soon. The kit landing gear might buckle under all that resin! Ski

Most of the pics I've seen of any model Bronco at Pendleton has them removed, unless other weapons are loaded. When I was stationed at Pendleton, our aircraft guns were stored at the armory at MALS unless the helo squadron signed them out for the day's missions. I didn't make it to Pendleton until after the Bronco retired, but I can only assume the same to be true for a VMO squadron. Ski

Brian, Definitely. I'm just saying that during Desert Shield/Storm, they prob weren't. They were definitely part of the Ds mission kit. But they might not have been worth the added weight (or perceived threat) to warrant carrying them. Ski

Gunner Mike, I have pored over my DS Bronco reference pics, and the only photo I show of a D that might have M60s installed is below. I emphasize the word might because I'm not 100% convinced, but even if VMO-2 did install them on the Ds (they definitely did on the As), it probably wasn't that common. Photos of DS Bronco's "in country" are few and far between, at least as far as I can tell. There's actually more photos taken Stateside after the end of hostilities of desert painted Broncos than there are of them in the sandbox. At any rate, if you look at the D in the background (55473), to me it looks like there might be guns installed (not the longest pointy thing, that's the A's pitot tube. The shorty one above it). Pics are grainy, but they're the best I could do: Now, just to round out the argument, here's the same A as above (55428) without guns. This leads me to believe that guns were either a.) mission dependent, or b.) removed completely at some point in the war. Not sure if any of this helps you, but it should be interesting to you at least! Semper, Ski

Amen, Brother. It'd be nice if they used an (untouched) museum example, like the D at the museum in Miramar. A lot of the museum pieces aren't in "as operated" condition. Sure, the D at Miramar is missing some displays, but it shouldn't be too hard to put two and two together. Ski

I don't think the Trumpy kit is that bad, overall it made for an enjoyable build. I did replace the kit cockpit, however (can't remember which product I used), and the weapons sprues leave something to be desired. In hindsight, I probably would have opted for aftermarket TERs and Mk82s, but I don't think the finished product looks too horrible. I don't recall any major fit issues, and any headaches I had throughout the build were more than likely self-induced. I have another one in my stash that I'll build "full color", so just the fact that I'm willing to build another should tell you something! Thanks for the kind comment, happy building! Cheers, Ski

Thanks, Thierry! I cobbled the markings together from various sheets, I go into greater detail here: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=54427&hl= Cheers! Ski

Mike, I've got quite a few OV-10 pics saved (from VN to post DS), I'll take a look and see what I can find out. Incidentally, I've got over a GB of USMC aircraft pics saved to a thumb drive that I'm mailing to Jay tomorrow. All my Bronco pics are on there (to include NATOPS manuals), you should take a look! Hey Mike! If you ever end up building a DS "A", don't forget it'll need the boom mounted chaff buckets. My guess about the M-60s is that, acting in the FAC role (not a CAS role), they probably felt the guns weren't necessary. Just a SWAG, but that would be my guess. Miss the old club, but I still find a way to keep up with most of you guys! Semper, Ski

Just fantastic work, wow. And that Skyhawk looks familiar! Cheers, Ski -
Looking sharp! I'll be following this build with interest...

Got a (much) better camera this time around, I'll be sure to use it with my subsequent builds. Cheers! Ski

Found some WIP photos of the build. My apologies for the crappy pics:

Go for Fisher Models LAU-10s. Used them on a previous build and will definitely be using them on MY Bronco.

Thank you all for the overwhelmingly supportive comments! I don't think my skills hold a candle to most of you, and to read your comments is truly humbling. And it's GREAT to finally be aboard! Cheers, Ski

Kev, I'd be more than flattered! Thank you! Ski

Wow, I wasn't expecting that! Thanks so much for the kind words, fellas. As I'm sure you have all felt at one time or another, nothing feeds your motivation to keep building more than other's input at times. And Kev, I'd be extremely flattered! Cheers, Ski

Thanks, everyone! Alan, I masked and painted the large black square on the bottom of the pod, the rest of the markings came from the weapons sheet that came with the kit. Ski

Sounds like a plan, Harold. Please PM me your address and I'll get them off to you! Semper, Ski
